Hi all, I recently bought a 2014 DCLB. I'm planning on putting a wedge camper shell on it in the near future (have one on order). I was looking at my bed rail caps and notice they are pretty tall compared to what I read was "normal" for 2.5 gen Tacomas. Are these stock caps (see pics)? There's quite a height difference between the caps and the tailgate top and the front rail. How to fill those gaps when mounting a shell? Please advise. Thank you :)

Identical to the ones on my 2015 that I've owned since new.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies. I guess I just didn't think they would be that tall. Now I get why ppl upgrade to Voodoo aluminum rails...

No complaints here about the height but they're so soft.. every time I've hauled something that rested against them, they just got chewed up and worn out. The bed caps on my old F150 were plastic but were dense as metal.. never got any chew marks on them.

Yes, for me the problem is I ordered a wedge camper which I believe is flat on the bottom all the way around. The difference in height between the side rails, the front rail and the tailgate could be an issue. To resolve this I just ordered the Voodoo aluminum side rail caps and tailgate cap. They are only 1/8" tall so the gap will be much easier to seal...

Plus this solves the softness issue which may have led to leaks down the line.

I've always liked the idea of those. How much did shipping end up being? I also wonder how it may affect the fit of my Softopper. Now that I think about it, removing that thickness might actually be problematic :(

Shipping was $80 (!) to AZ, sigh... Hopefully will be well worth it in the end.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Also perfect that they do free shipping over $300 but this is a $231 part.

I changed my 2015 DCSB to KB Voodoo cap rails when I modified a Gen 1 Mountain Top aluminum checkerplate tonneau to fit my Gen 2 truck. I couldn’t have done the project without those. The KB Voodoo rails make a Gen 2 bed perimeter just about flat all the way around.

The higher-sides-than-front-and-back bed rail design has always been one of the loopier things about the Gen 2 trucks.

Stock (99.999%) OEM Bed Floor Mat, Front Bed Rail Cargo Net and hooks, Auto-Dim mirror w/Compass and outside Temperature display, TRD Pro Grille, Uni-Filter air pump modification, WeatherTech floor liners f/r. (winter) OEM All-Weather floor mats (summer).
I noted this strange height difference right away when I went to look at my 2014 before purchasing it. It didn't make sense to me and made me nervous that something was going on with it; (modifcation, parts swap) especially at the front under the back window. I went out of my way to look at another Tacoma to confirm it was normal/stock. It was also clear that the truck had a bed cap at some point since there was some leftover bits of foam weatherstrip and adhesive along the top of that front plastic cap. It must have been hard to keep it watertight.
