So they totalled my Spruce Mica (Gabriella), but I got a great settlement on the salvage title and it is at my house in North Alabama. Waiting for a call on financing for a 2014 Grey one with 85K miles (my Spruce Mica has 133K) one owner with no accidents that I will hopefully pick up next week. Then start the process of stripping Gabriella for a lot of the mods (rear bumper, roof rack, dual battery system, shell, Elockers, etc.) to move to the new truck. So want to sell the rest of Gabriella. Engine actually cranks just fine and is throwing no codes. Anyone interested in parts PM me. I also would very much appreciate it if anyone has any advice to offer as I have never dealt with selling something like this before.

If you have the regular grey interior I'm interested in the rear middle seat headrest.

(also wow! such a shame, that looks like a beautiful truck)

For a bit of an explanation as to what happened.

Drove truck to my property and once there engaged in 4-wheel drive high (dirt roads). I was towing a utility trailer (trailer is single wheeled and weighs about 600lbs and was loaded with 1,500lbs of building material - cinder block and gravel). I backed it up a 16-degree slope (I checked this slope later with another truck to verify what the slope was) to unload. Set emergency brake, put it in park, gently let off the brake ensuring it would not slide in the dirt and drive shaft was engaged, turned the ignition off, put the keys in the other seat, opened the door and stepped out. Before I could even close the door, I heard a pop and truck started to freewheel down the hill with me running after it, using a lot of Sailor language, and finally deciding to not jump in and risk getting run over and let it go. Buried itself in the woods about 50 yards down the hill all the way to the back of the trailer (a tree I have named Ilean slowed it and another one which did all the damage stopped it). Clambered through the brush and got in. Truck was still in park and emergency brake set when I got in. Since it was not started up when it went down the hill there was no engine seizure or airbag deployment. I had to turn the steering wheel a bit to get the key to fit. Turned it over (probably should not have in retrospect as it sure as hell wasn't going to back out) and wheels spun so I shut it off. Wrecker came and we unloaded the trailer, pushed it out of the way, hooked up chains to the back off road bumper, and pulled it out of the brush. First thoughts had been that the drive shaft had snapped or U-joint failed but checked and that was not the case. Based on the wrecker attendant instructions, I started the truck up, put it in 4-wheel low (it engaged with no issue or codes) and easily backed it right up into the wrecker bed. After we got to the yard with the truck, I got in, started it and drove it off the wrecker bed in 4-wheel low again and then disengaged it with no issues. Never did take any pictures of it in the woods as I was a bit put out about the whole deal.

    - Truck has ECGS lockers front and back but I was not using them (maybe should have in retrospect).

Of all things I don't have it is that. Never liked them in the back and we had a garage cleaning one day and I finally got tired of them cluttering up the garage and tossed them.

Yep, can let those go. In beautiful shape too since I have had Wet Okole seat covers on them since I bought it. PM me and we can discuss price. We would also have to figure out how to get them to you.

I’d avoid buying another of that brand of front bumper. No way should that weld have broken like that.

    No problem.
No problem. Give me a week to finalize insurance payoff and make sure there are no hiccups with the salvage title.

It’s too bad they rushed it and did a poor job of welding. I’d consider sending them that picture. No way should a weld snap like that, regardless of the material.

Trailer with 1500lbs pushing and truck going downhill at about 20mph into the tree would do it.

Apologies in advance if I missed it in here somewhere, but can you share the root cause for this failure/disaster? It looks like you did everything right and then some. The first thing I thought of was the parking-pawl failed, but the set emergency brake should have been taking up that job and load. I apply the e-brake every time because I lost the pawl in a car I owned one time and it was expensive to fix.

Yeah, interested in the root cause, if it can be determined.

What is/was the condition of the rear drum brakes?

Possibly if the rear drums were old and quite worn, the ebrake could engage, but due to the thinness of the remaining drum-pad material and/or lack of the drums being adjusted to take up the gap, the ebrake could not engage with maximum/factory-spec force, only partial force.

Second, it sounds like you were very careful in your braking setup but one thing you didn't mention was whether you angled the front wheels to whatever the safest direction would be for a brake-fail situation, i.e. into the nearest embankment or upslope.

Last, this may sound excessive, but when loaded heavy or towing & stopped on a slope, I also use a large, heavy (tractor-trailer-size) wheel chock under a rear tire as added insurance. Of course this would not be applicable in your situation as the truck popped free immediately upon your getting out, but as a general practice it's a good thing to add.

As a side note, one reason I like manual trans. for this sort of situation is that you can put it in 4LO during the parking process, and leave it in 1st gear. Even if the e-brake lets go and the truck is very heavily loaded, engine braking alone in 4LO-1st is probably going to keep the truck speed low enough to safely giddyap and jump in the driver's seat.

Wheel chock, laminated rubber for high grip, curved face for perfect tire contact, 7" x 11" x 11" size, 13 lbs apiece:

Thanks very much for the info! Plan to sell what I can and after about two months call the salvage yard to haul the rest away (don't need another vehicle in my driveway). Going to talk with a friend down at collision center about a good salvage yard to sell it to and how much to expect. Engine was shut off when it went downhill and even now it cranks up fine and doesn't throw any codes. Just did the cam gear swap, manifold spacer and tune a few months ago (ugh!). Picking up a used 2014 DCLB (Pyrite Grey) this Thursday with 85k miles on it and a lot of stuff will move to that truck.

Heres a list for everyone with items I’m moving to next truck
    - Harrop ELockers front and rear
    - Headlight harness
    - New front bumper and winch
    - Genesis Dual Battery system
    - Wet Okoles
    - Rear bumper
    - Seat jackers
    - Roof rack and light bar
    - ALCAN Rear leaf’s
    - Rear shocks
    - Front shocks
    - Amps and speakers
    - Snorkel
    - ARK splash guards (if needed but next truck is in excellent shape and doubt I will need them)
    - Bed stiffeners
    - Camper shell
    - Gentex mirror (from pics I see it has the programmable mirror and this will also be up for sale)
    - Oil catch can
    - Bushwhacker flares
    - Winch cut off switch
    - Snorkel

Any input about dealing with a salvage yard would be helpful.
