I think, in a lot of ways F1 is the pinnacle of motoracing, with WRC and world Moto GP in there as well. I've been following or trying to follow F1 since I was a kid and really do not mind the new sound and format, although I think it sux that the small teams are dieing on the vine and we will never see another Jack Brabham. Gone are the days of seat of your pants driving with just cunning and will to make bad handling things submit and win; but that is where we are today with all motorsports, technology is king and that takes deep pockets.
On a seperate note; love him or hate him, Bernie is Bernie and he will never capitulate because someone doesn't like something he says or does. I guess that is the beauty of being old and incredibly wealthy....

One thing I miss from the days when I first started following F1 is the sound of the engines. It was the beginning of the 3 liter formula and was a time when you could tell what make of car was coming by the sound it made. For example Matra and Ferrari both had V12's but oh, my, the different scream they made.

Alas horsepower wars are expensive. So, what about a formula that limits WHP? Let manufacturers get there any way they want. Displacement, cylinder counts and layout, turbocharging, supercharging, all of it wide open, just so you make no more than, say, 850 WHP. Keep the reliability rules in place to prevent one-race bombs.

The technology certainly exists to enforce such a formula. It would encourage development that translates well to street cars, and might bring back the days of being able to identify a car with your eyes closed.

 

Going back to V8 , V10 , or V12's is not happening

Gas is getting cheaper. One can hope.

 

It may happen some day. I'm not sure how long this current formula will last, but it will eventually change.

 

They won't be going back to engines that have zero relevance to current road cars at least not while Renault , Mercedes and Honda are involved and the won't be attacting Audi if they do that .

What's so funny about Vintage F1 races ? There is an actual series , I saw one of the races in Montreal this year

 

I don't think he knows about double-clutching on downshifts.

I think vintage racing is awesome. Seeing and hearing the cars being driven 'in anger' is incredible. It's just not what I think of as the pinnacle of sport. It's not an F1 replacement in other words.
