I bought a new 2014 access cab a few weeks ago, 4x2, 4 cylinder manual trans. It has the SR5 package. Only options listed were floor mats, preferred owner's portfolio, Entune audio plus and SR5 extra value package. I scuba dive, and with my old 1988 Toyota pickup kept my key on a string around my neck while diving, so it got soaked all the time. I took my new key to a locksmith and they tested it and said it didn't have an immobilizer chip inside. When I bought the truck, the dealer said it did, which is what the little metal tag with numbers with one of the keys was for. There are absolutely no markings on the key, either a dot or any letter. I do have a separate remote for the keyless entry.

Does anyone know if my truck does or does not have an immobilizer? I haven't taken my key underwater, and don't want to find out if there's a chip that isn't waterproof by experimentation!

pretty sure there's a chip. get a copy made and try and start it.

you could always lock the chipped key inside the truck and wear a cheap copy around your neck to unlock the doors.

    just a thought

To answer my own question - I looked on the Toyota web site to get dimensions of my truck, and while looking through all the specs, Engine Immobilizer was listed under Safety / Convenience as "Not Available". I guess it's safe to drench my key
