18 should be fine. I don't think the video signal wire is carrying a heavy load like your speaker wires.

It will work but you need to add a wire to gain the function of the arrow keys.

Yogster. Where is the S8 connector located for the ground so the new controls illuminate.

In 2014 the ground to illuminate the switch goes to pin 9 of the S8 connector. The ground runs from the S8 connector to the gauge cluster. In 2012 and 2013 the ground wire was pin 4 of the S8 connector and it ran to the back of the radio. The positive wire position is the same between the three years. At least that's how I read the wiring diagram. Hopefully Yogster can confirm this.

Excellent. I now need to figure out where that connector is located in the truck. I believe the additional data wire for the 2014 steering wheel controls need to be run from there as well.

Its very simple to access. If you remove the shroud on your steering column, its located underneath facing the pasanger side next to the yellow one. If I could figure out how to post pics from Google+ I would show ya.

I have to run the wire for ground as well as the wire to the 28 pin connector on the rear of the radio to get my controls to work.

I've always used Photobucket. I'm sure there are other ways to host pictures out there but Photobucket has been around for a while. I used to use another free site but after a year or so it changed all my pictures into advertisements . If you don't plan on posting too many you could just upload them to your tacomaworld account, assuming you haven't already maxed out your photo library memory.

Garmin Eco-Route HD for Bluetooth ODBII Diagnostics, 2014 Entune Plus w Navigation, Leer 100XL dome light wired to dome circuit, pop&lock tailgate and cap locks.
This is correct. 2013 illumination used the steering wheel control common circuit (pin 4 on s8) which went back to the radio. On 2014 the common circuit for illumination feeds all the way back to "instrument panel ground" which is just a single ground point which grounds several other instrumental circuits. I've confirmed that simply grounding pin 9 to the metal chassis OR any known common ground (not switched, or timed ground) will do.

I believe the change was due to the pin layout change on the steering wheel connector. Maybe.

A note on the spiral cable assembly. this is the black plastic circular housing that you see beneath the airbag. It allows for connection between z1 and s8. There is a flat ribbon cable in that housing that winds and unwinds like a clock spring as the steering wheel is turned. There only 2 flavors - a "7-way", ie, 7-conductor, for trucks NOT equipped with steering wheel controls. And a "16-way", ie 16-conductor for trucks equipped with steering wheel controls. If your truck was NOT equipped with steering wheel controls from the factory, the spiral cable assembly would need to be replaced (in addition to acquiring the steering wheel controls). The spiral cable assembly is not difficult to replace. There is another thread on that. Someone in this thread or another asked about trucks WITHOUT factory steering wheel controls.

I plan on completing the illumination wiring this weekend.

So i got around to doing the install, i took some pictures here they are.

Thats one of the 2 torx 30 bolts holding the air bag on. They are located under the plastic plates on either side of the wheel. note those bolts do not come out, they stay housed in those plastic guides.
    IMG_20140307_162311041_HDR_67b22f69bf38bdf8116fa617a6edc559fd3f48f8.jpg

Air bag off 4 screws holding the controls on, don't forget the one ground attached to the airbag.

    S8 connector disconected

S8 with new wires. I did not recieve my repair leads so i harvested some out of my parts MR2 lol. I ended up grounding pin 9 just under the cluster on one of the bolts.
    IMG_20140307_175211035_948f4cb333f3ead5b9cda4af01814bc95aec21e9.jpg

    And all buttoned up
    IMG_20140307_180400282_038e693f77a20bf2ea0200960fe1129ae76234a6.jpg

Hope that helps clear some stuff up. I couldent get a good shot of the back of the head unit, i have an amp located above it so the wires don't like to moved too far (should have made the wires longer lol)
Now to sell my old controls!

    Robotninjasrule:

Grid lines are in the rear view mirror display, and don't appear on the radio display using the factory rear view camera with the added cable to connect the two.

Thanks for the pin out. My 2014 steering wheel controls should appear this week.

    Thanks for the help!

No problem! I worked with 1vp alot. I was a strathcona, recce squadron. Now I am a avionics system tech. Figured after 10 years of being that pointy edge of the spear was enough!
