Don't take the best defensive coordinator we've had under Mullen.

But you've had mediocre and underachieving defenses before. Chris Wilson did the same thing here. He's a match made in heaven for Mark Richt.

I'm thinking Smart might have backed out to take the Vandy HC job.

Pruitt made $260k at Alabama in 2012, $540k at FSU in 2013, and will make $850k at UGA this year. Wish I got raises like that.

Not really sold on Pruitt just yet. This is a HUGE gamble IMO! How can we take this guy for less than what CTG is making now and a 1st year DC? He took over a team loaded with talent and really couldn't mess up. I know he won a NC, but they had the best O in the country and statistically regressed on defense. What does everyone think? Don't want to get excited about what really amounts to a freshman...

His defense slowed auburn enough to win the game. Kirby's didn't. Granted, Kirby could have held auburn to 31 points like Pruitt did and still lost.

Anyway... Hope Kirby would rather be our DC than the Vandy HC, but we'll see.

Not that it matters, but Finebaum is poo-pooing the Pruitt hire. "Not impressed. More about Pruitt cashing in than UGA changing direction." He's a curmudgeon.

I think it's a pretty good hire. He's coached under Saban, won a NC as a DC, and was twice named national recruiter of the year. Our recruiting hasn't been an issue, but this can only help.

Add in the fact that he's supposed to be pretty good at coaching up DBs (I know, they have DB coaches for that), and I think it adds up to a much better defense next year (not that it could get much worse). I think we'll need it...I'm not 100% sold on Mason even though he's been in the system for 4 years.

He's back! All-SEC left tackle La'el Collins announced he will return for his senior season.

I've seen that if Kirby were to leave, Bama might go after your boy.

 Collins doesn't run the same type of scheme that Saban has been running. We've run a 4-3 where Saban uses a 3-4. Probably not a huge switch though, considering all of the players are already in place at Bama.

I was hoping for Kirby but I'll take it! He was my 2nd choice but I'm no expert and don't know who else is/was out there. I'm ecstatic! He may not turn out to be the savior but has got to be an improvement. Hell, I'm ready for the season to start now. :D

As soon as I heard Grantham was gone, I was ready for the season to start. I want to see what kind of improvement we can make.

Now if we could only hear that we've hired or appointed a special teams coach.
