My biggest concern is the JBL part of the equation... From the limited research I've done so far I can't seem to find anyone who has installed a 2012+ JBL unit into an older truck equipped with the JBL system. But to your point, the first part of this puzzle is the radio itself. So I probably will start by purchasing a JBL touch screen unit from a 2012+ Tacoma and go from there. Anyone know where I can find one without spending a small fortune???

I think this is my first post... Not sure, I'm an EX tundra guy who posted a lot but new to the taco world. I have an 07 access cab non jbl. I just got a leer cap and with the windows tinted out and its impossible to see backing up in dark. So I just bought a 2013 non entune, non jbl, non nav touch screen with hopes to install a back up camera. Mine has no back up camera at all. Can someone help me out with this? For the standard install I've got the 20-28 pin adapter, antenna adapter, usebadapter, still gotta figure out the 3.5mm aux plug, I have steering wheel controls, but the big thing is figuring out an aftermarket backup camera that's gonna work with this unit. I have the 2013 so I guess I need the 16 pin connector vs the 24 for the back up? Any information would be sweet

Hey guys, I could be posting this in the wrong area, and if so, maybe someone could direct me in the right forum... I have an 07 access cab with no pre wired back up cam. I'm installing a 2013 non jbl non entune non nav touch screen. I want to make a back up camera work. I will most likely get a stock camera with 4 wires. I'll run cat 5 with wires right from the tail gate (4 for camera and 1 for a 12 v signal from the reverse light in the tail light). I have ordered the 16 pin connector and pins for r17on the back of HU and run the 4 camera wires to there and the 5th back up wire 12 v signal from reverse light to pin 2 on the 28 pin. Does this make ANY sense to anyone? Trying to figure this out before I just throw it in. I have all the other adapters ready to go, just trying to sort out an easy install if i have to run a wire from the back of truck i might as well tie in to the reverse light in the tail light right there instead of cutting into a harness by the fuse panel (which i know is different than the wired 09 and later trucks). Thanks

I have a problem I haven't seen documented. My truck (2009) had the Bluetooth controls added by the previous owner.

When I installed my 2014 HU the pick up/hang up button controls the stereo volume and the stereo volume seems to control the Bluetooth volume.... Do I have a wrong adapter somewhere? I do NOT have a mic connected at this time to the HU.

I would first try with a mic connected to see if that clears up your issue. I say this because somewhere in the manual it stated there was some other missing functionally that was disabled because the mic was not connected. I'll try to find it.

Yeah, I'll get that ordered tomorrow.

My mode button also seems to just cycle through presets.

I removed everything and reinstalled and now my volume up turns the volume down, but the volume down also turns it down!

This truck had a swi for an aftermarket stereo in it at one point but I removed that module (I left the wiring harness in place, including the taps but I wouldn't think that would affect anything with the module disconnected. I'm wondering if there is a different adapter cable I need to go from my 20 pin adapter in my 2009 than the one I ordered.

So my memory is coming back to me a bit. I remember the voice part of the head unit not working because I didn't have a mic plugged in. I think making calls wasn't an option without it as well. Couldn't find this talked about in the manual

    Manual is located here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/heres-your-combined-2014-entune-nav-manual.333568/

As for your button control issue, I'm not sure because I only have the factory steering wheel controls for Mode Vol+ Vol- on my left hand side. My right side where the Bluetooth controls would be are blanks. Since the previous owner of your truck had an aftermarket head unit I wonder if there's something fishy with one of the plugs that accepts the new harness. Can you post a pic of the harness that you left in there from the previous owner?

There's nothing left of the pioneer harness (at least not connected to anything). The swi he had to use the pioneer with the OEM switches is disconnected as well. It taps into the 20 pin connector in 2 or 3 spots (using wire taps to connect to the OEM wiring) which then terminate in their own plug for the swi box. The swi box is completely disconnected. I really don't see how that could cause the problem I have, they are essentially terminated wires connected via tap.

I'll start with the mic and go from there!

Need a little help. Im getting all my parts together to do this swap. I already have a 2015 radio on the way. My question is the bezel. I want to do what JustinL did and swap the 2010 bezel for a 2012-2015. So there are a few types out there. Anyone have or know the part number for a 2012-2015 4X4 TRD Off Road bezel. Another question is the air bag switch, some bezel have the switch to turn off the passenger air bag and some don't. Whats the difference?
    Thanks for any help.

I have a '14 TRD sport 2 wd and my bezel part # is 55405-04080 - 266.00 is what I got quoted from camelback. Toyota parts. They needed my vin to varifie . I was just pricing them.
I put a '15 HU in my '14 . I never had a off and on switch option on my '14. Just indicator symbols and light. Hope this helps. GLW your project!! It sounds fun!

I have a 2014 non nav non JBL but with touchscreen OEM headunit but i would like to trade it for a 2012 unit (one with larger volume and tune knobs)

I find the smaller knobs a PITA in the winter when trying to manipulate them with heavy gloves.

    Anyone interested in a trade?

lookin to do a similar swap.. not sure if anyone has done this yet.. but..

currently have a Pionner AVH headunit in my truck now.. 09 with JBL. I tore out all of the jbl crap.. installed the HU, all new wiring into an Alpine amp, new speakers, and added the Metra steering wheel controls.

Im lookin to swap my Pioneer HU out with a 12+ with Nav.. anyone know if this is doable? since I had to cut and splice numerous wires for the Pioneer install.. Im wondering if its going to be easier or more difficult.

Yeah I originally cut the factory harness.. back when I did the first HU install, to keep the JBL amp, etc.. that didnt last long as it still sounded like crap.. and wanted a FULL upgrade. So..I did the AVH install, and ran all new wires throughout the truck.

which.. is why im not sure if I can do the 12+ Entune swap.. :pout:

I might be interested. This would be a direct swap? Plug and play?

I just found out when using a flash drive with mine I can't really search for files like I can with an I pod. But my I pod doesn't hold enough of my music. Does the touch screen provide a way to search the flash drive files?

Thanks for posting so much information on how to mod our vehicle. I wouldn’t have even tried to attempt a mod like this without help from TW members. I seem to hit a road block. I have a 2010 JBL head unit and just purchased a 2014 JBL Entune/Nav unit from a member on TW. Here are the parts I have so far. I’ve read many post all over this audio/video forum. There is a lot more information about non-Jbl version vs the JBL version. I attempted to connect everything today and noticed that my main power and speaker connection doesn’t fit the 10-pin R1 and 6-pin R2 connection in the back of the receiver. What cable or cables do I need to complete this mod? Thanks in advance
