Is a 2 inch wheel spacer a good size?

1" will bring you flush with the lug studs and lowest you can go without trimming...unless the wheels have recesses in them, then you can go .75"

    i.e. FN Wheels 5-star
    [IMG]

those recesses allow you to go with <1" spacers and not have to chop your studs

most factory wheels, people run 1.25"...seems like if you shoot for 4-4.5" backspacing, you'll be able to fit most any tire size (that is reasonable with our trucks)

I want to run the same stock offroad rim it came with but with wider tires.

I've had nothing but good experience with this:

Used it on my uca's and leaf bushings.

check the back of the tires for those recesses (i'm pretty sure toyota wheels have them)...if they are there, you can go anywhere from .75" and up...

if they are the 16x7 TRD off road wheels, it looks like they are 5.25" backspacing (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires/30754-wheel-specs.html). you'd be fine with .75"-1.25" to bring you in that 4-4.5" BS

for example, i have pro comp 7089 17x8 right now that are 4.5" BS and i've run 285/70/17 for years and recently ran 305/70/17 and still had clearance (given i had aftermarket UCAs which offer a bit more clearance).

so i'd say a 1" or 1.25" would be a good bet...you can usually find 1.25" spacers for sale frequently on here

Thank you, that thread says mine have 5.25" BS.

    Suspension is installed!

Didn't get very much up front. Only 1/2" or so. I need to measure definitely got over 2" in the rear.
