I have checked the forums on this issue and didn't find anything close. I don't know if anyone can help with this, but all of a sudden started getting some weird head unit problems with my headunit. I lose functionality of my headunit either if its plugged into usb, bluetooth, or no phone at all. I cant change the channel or the touch screen loses functionality. Here are 2 videos to show you what i am talking about. I took it to the dealership twice and the first time the service department guy blew me off and when i asked if there were any firmware updates he said we don't put firmware updates on the stereo. So then I recorded it and showed the 2nd guy and he said lets do a firmware update. Well guess what still not working and still doing the same thing. Now he said i have to bring it back in and they can call Toyota. Can anyone recommend what it might be? I would appreciate any help anyone can give.

I think I know the issue. You have to press it exactly 100 times, then it will work. JK

I see a warranty issue coming up on this one.

There is a TSB on this I think, it's normal in the regards that it happened to thousands of people.

It should be replaced under warranty, if you Google "Tacoma head unit freezing" you'll find lots of examples.

I've had that happen for shorter periods of time. It seemed to me like the head unit was frozen or "thinking". Didn't really get it as bad as yours though. It does seem like if you give it a second it clears up? Kind of like on old windows computers where the more buttons you push, the longer it takes to "unfreeze" because you're inputting more commands while it's processing. PITA for sure, but I don't really have a fix. One time I did the old "turn it of and turn it back on" trick, but that was it. It's only happened to me maybe twice in the past two years of owning the truck.
