    Hello Tacoma World,

This is my first post. I have a 2014 Tacoma Prerunner 4-cyl. I've been the only owner. It's about 160k mi and I love my truck.

I noticed a rough idle when I'm sitting on the brakes at a red light with the AC on.
I'm pretty convinced it's the idle air control valve (or equivalent). Photo attached.

I searched and could not find a replacement that looks like the item in my truck.

Any clarification about this part/system would be very helpful. I have some mechanics at work that will help me replace it but I want to make sure I bring in the right stuff.

    Thank you!

    Nick

There is no idle air control valve on 2nd gen trucks, everything is handled by the electronic throttle body.
The part with the hoses on it (circled in red) is the purge VSV, it's part of the EVAP system.

I bet the throttle body is just dirty, also if the spark plugs have never been changed it's overdue for those.
Clean the throttle body and replace the plugs if they have more than 100k on them and I bet you will fix your issue.

Thank you for the welcome and thank you for this info about the purge VSV.
I have changed the plugs a handful of times and Seafoamed the throttle body. However it has been a few months.
I'll start there with a tune-up and see if it remedies my problem. Good recommendation - go back to basics and make sure the fundamentals are in order.
    Thanks again,
    Nick

When you say seafoamed you mean you just sprayed seafoam in the intake or did you actually physically clean the deposits off it with a brush and/or rag and cleaner?

I only sprayed it in the intake and hoped for the best.
    Probably not the most effective.

Yea you need to physically clean the throttle body with carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner and a brush or rag, just be carefull not to force the throttle plate past the stops.

That sounds more thorough. I'll give it a shot. Thank you!

    Dm93 - Superb advice!
I scrubbed the throttle body with an old toothbrush and some cleaner while I was doing an oil change.
My low idle problem went away. My fuel MPG went up. I think the throttle plate was stuck. I nudged it with a screw driver for the cleaning and it got much easier to move.
Thanks for the suggestion. It worked!
