    Hi all,
I have a 2014 Tacoma. Completely stock with 207k miles. (I am the original owner.) It is a 4.0 V6 with 6 speed manual transmission. Several times now, if my foot accidentally slips off the clutch and stalls the engine. The truck will not start until it sits for a while. One time it started after a few hours, but most of the time it’s a few days to weeks? The last time it happened, I had to get towed out of the middle of the freeway! And it is only when I stall the engine. If I drive it and turn it off with the key, it will fire right up the next time I go to start it. It’s driving me nuts! Hopefully someone has some insight on this issue!

    thanks!
    Scott

I'd start with the clutch [pedal] interlock switch.

Does it crank or do nothing when you turn the key?

It attempts to start, but dies within a few seconds. It will do that a few times and then will just crank over.

I will check the clutch interlock. What’s your thought with that? What should I be looking for?

Spark plug history? They are due every 30-40k so if they are original they are certainly due.

I'd be looking at carbon build up also, the throttle plate would be a good indicator.

Does it start up normally and then die in about 3 seconds?

If it's turning over with the starter, it's not the clutch interlock switch. If that's bad, it won't even crank.

Bishop84. Sparkplugs and coils have less than a couple thousand miles on them.

TnShooter: Yes! Starts, but then dies within a few seconds. Then it won’t attempt to start but just cranks. I can come back after a while and it will do the same thing all over. Attempt to start, then die. Then just cranks again. I thought maybe a fuel pump, but why would a fuel pump act up only after stalling?

It’s possible your clutch switch is going out. I did the bypass when my clutch switch started to go bad, instead of buying a new switch. Super easy, just gotta hook the relay to a multimeter, 2 pins will show resistance, 2 will be open, the jumper goes where to open pins go. About 1" of wire and 2 males spades, done.

What got me by before doing the bypass was to hold the key in the start position and repeatedly stomp the clutch until it cranked. Sometimes 3 stomps, sometimes 45 minutes worth of stomping. Definitely not ideal.

After the bypass, it began not wanting to start again. I was going to replace the starter, Mr. Jimmyh suggested starter solenoid contacts which solved my problem.

Above is for a no start no crank situation. Below is for a cranks but doesn’t start situation.

There’s a fuel pump resistor behind one of the headlights, passenger I think. It gives the pump full voltage when starting, without the resistor. Then switches to reduced power, with the resistor.

Clymber- I’ve only tried once and it wouldn’t bump start.

Thanks Waasheem! I will go look at that fuel pump resistor.
