Held off buying a 2014 because I read several on-line blogs about how this model is a total redesign, with larger fuel tank, better fuel mileage, more V6 engine choices, exterior and interior changes. However, when I finally got to see the 2014 model, I was disappointed as everything is basically the 2013 model - same fuel capacity, mileage, engines options, etc. What gives?

What cave are you just now crawling out of? There has been so much already written about the 2014 models on here it will make your head spin. Do a search and see for yourself...

It's been known for quite a long time that there weren't going to be any major changes for 2014. Not sure how you were mislead for so long.

Some people think they're behind on their plans because of the tsunami and radiation issues. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes years to catch up to with the other manufacturers in some ways. They've talked about partnering with Ford repeatedly. I think Toyota might be having trouble implementing gasoline direct injection. I can't explain why they're still selling new cars with 4 speed automatics (Tacoma, Yaris, Corolla, Matrix) in 2013 though. Keeping initial cost down is more important than increasing MPG, I guess. Seems like a few hundred more on a transmission would pay off fast for an extra 5-10 MPG with these gas prices.

Ford, BMW, Porsche, Hyundai, Kia, and even Chevy are all using DI in at least some models. Toyota is still building 2.7L 4 cylinders with 159HP and 4.0L V6s with 236HP. The only direct injected cars Toyota makes are branded as Lexus or sold overseas only.

Maybe 2015... Until then, the competition isn't doing much either. And you might hate the new Tacoma when it finally comes out. There was some noise about the 2013 front end, when it came out.

Nothing worse than reading "I don't work for Toyota but here's what I think they'll do next while looking out my window." When Toyota brings out new features, they give an official press release detailing the info.

Just go to the Toyota Tacoma Build page and you can see the various engines/cabs/trims.

    ^^^ This ^^^

Until Toyota releases a press release of a "New" redesign expect to only see what you see now. Anything other is pure speculative Bull Shit.

Toyota will release the redesign when they see fit. When you actually see a new redesigned Tacoma on a dealer lot you can be assured it has been changed. Then and only then will it be official.

The 2014's are on the lot at my local dealer, and appear to have no change beyond a shark fin antennae. I can say this, the dealer is asking way too much!

Wow, you are expecting a lot from an extra gear. The 4 speed automatic on the 2.7L already has a pretty steep overdrive gear.
