Hey guys I have a 2014 tacoma off road with the sport seats. There is a bar at the bottom of the seat that kills my lower back. Apparently it has the active restraint seat in it. It's very uncomfortable... Does anyone else notice this???

    Not enough...
Argh! I had the same problem. I also had the same problem on my friends 1st gen sport seats too. It only happens after i lean the seat back to my comfortable level. If i go one notch back, I cant feel it. Cranking up lumbar support helps. I also got Katzkins with additional padding. That helps too, but i still feel it sometimes.

I just took my seat apart and there is a cable active lever that hooks to the head rest. I unbolted it and moved it back and it feels 85% better!!

I hate the seats but my wet okole seat covers do add some padding. I've driven back and forth from VA to CO a couple of times and they always kill my back.

Hey guys I was able to fix my drivers seat. There is a whiplash mec. At the bottom of the seat that is supposed to help during a crash, however it KILLS my lower back. I removed it and OMG the seat is so comfortable. See my pics!!! It's so stupid to have this it really does not do much! You can see how huge this dam thing is. Once removed perfect!!!

Probably going to kill your back more if you actually get rear ended and get whiplash no??

Amazing! I just copied you. I'm so mad that I didn't figure this out for myself after 5000 miles of backache. Super easy. It literally took 10 minutes. Thank you very much for sharing. I took a couple pictures myself I can put up if anyone wants.

Just a bunch of old crap
I've never had an issue with my Sport seats and I'm a big guy with preexisting back problems. I keep the lumbar support fully cranked and it helps keep me in great posture for long drives. My legs get tired far before my back has issues. 2006 model, not sure if it makes a difference.

I don't think so. The head rest whiplash device is what drives this. It is attached to it with a cable. The head rest part of the system is still fully functional. Even if this part does help a little in a rear end hit, the damage it causes with everyday pain is now gone.

Here are the pictures I took. The first is how it looks when you first open the seat. The second is with the device pulled out ready to remove (I wanted to try the seat before taking it all the way out).

Not sure how important that active headrest is in an accident. Seems there have been several rear-end collisions lately to Tacomas.

I don't care. Way worth it. Good info though for someone deciding if they want to do this.
