Plus I'd Kill for a 1kd-ftv in there. Wonder how hard it would be to bolt in since it is a Toyota engine.

Still no reason not to produce only one 4.0.
Use the one from the Tundra and use it down the line.
It would have to save the company some money altho I would guess the Taco outsells the v/6 Tundra, Fj and whatever else they put the 4.0 in combined.

^yeah Im pretty sure they have a good reason for it. a huge company like Toyota does not have complete retards making the big decisions (although lately it kinda seems that way).

Me too, Don't the overseas units have just such a thing?
What do they use for the diesel 4 or 6 cyl?
I am sure they are the inline style.
Europe has diesel cars galore and trucks also why in the hell can't we?

I agree, not needed but the diesel lets you have plenty of towing/hauling capacity and will get 30+ MPG unloaded. I think it would be awesome to have a diesel in the Tacoma but I still think it'd be too expensive of an option.

They're all in cahoots. It is the American Auto makers with their large UAW constituency they protect that keep innovation coming to market. The US auto companies can't move as fast in the market as other companies (Hyundai is good example), so they work with regulators and the other Washington lobbyists to protect their turf.

I also believe the refining capacity mix also deters a larger share of deisel demand. And the fact that you can mix corn with it. ( again, protect the farmers).

If anyone tells you we live in a free market society, they don't get it. It's an Oligopoly.

I know, it'd most likely be the same as with the 4.0L V6 but with the current options you can either have the power and capacity of the V6 or the fuel economy of the 4 cylinder for daily driving. Diesel lets you have both.

They must have a bunch more power at sea level, here in the heartland they are marginal.
My DC 4x4 longbed can't even spot a hill in the distance without downshifting.
Thats why I want to supercharge it but wouldn't you know it they aren't available.
    sucks

Yes, the new Euro levels are similar to EPA2010 diesel regs.

And yes, import diesel pick ups are coming, but it's going to be a few years.

Another article linked in that one talks about Scion getting a small pickup... seriously, I was hoping Scion would have gone the way of Daewoo, Saturn and Oldsmobile by now. I am pissed they got the new FR-S, that should have come state side as a proper Toyota.

I would consider trading my Tacoma in for a new one if they brought out a better engine, i.e. more power and more mpgs, I know it isn't a Prius, but if the Tundra can get 16/20, then a V6 Tacoma should be able to trump that... and it doesn't...

Once again another diesel thread....... Anyway I would never buy a diesel tacoma. Now if they put a v8 in there my truck would be up for sale today.

Never thought Scion made any sense myself. Unlike Lexus, at the corporate level, Scion is part of Toyota, not a separate division. Toyota's market research must have showed many Americans are superficial enough to care about the brand name. That, or they hired some washout GM execs who think Toyota needs its own "excitement" division.
