Care to explain? I had a WRX that was rock solid for over 100k miles and my dad had one that was rock solid for over 150k miles. Both were sold with zero issues and I'm sure they're still going strong.

Not really sold on newer vehicles. I like my 06 Tacoma but I was happier with my 88 4runner, cheaper all around yet still nice to drive.

Been thinking about picking up an older diesel JDM import like Hilux Surf or Landcruiser Prado. The best ones ive seen around are BJ75 Pickups, Hilux Double cabs with solid front axles, and HZJ81s. The 4runner with a 22RE/5spd is pretty fool proof though, good power and fuel economy, yet cheap/easy to find parts.

This is why you're not in marketing. Scion was brilliant - and still is.

I owned a direct injected turbocharged car... great power and economy. An issue that DI motors have is gunk building up on the intake valves very quickly, since there is no fuel in the intake manifold to help keep them clean. Couple that with today's EGR systems and you get a lot of carbon on the valves. Technology is always advancing but I am not sure if they have a good fix for this yet. I am familiar with the Mazda platforms, I read their latest fix for this with their skyactiv system was routing coolant near the valves to keep them hotter and less likely to allow the carbon to harden on them. No idea how effective this is.

Just the first thing that came to my mind when I read this. I'd rather take a proven motor design that I know will be maintenance free for a long time and take a mpg/efficiency hit for a truck platform.

The 4.0 Taco gets about the same mileage as the F150 Ecoboost. IMO opinion, they need to offer either a smaller SC engine or diesel to improve the MPG. Either would offer a better engine for towing. The 4.0 runs out of steam on long inclines and higher elevations.

    Considering that's an '05-'10 grille....

    Owner modified. That's not factory.

I understand. I thought the dealer had picked it up somehow.

There was one down at the Relentless shop I got to check out pretty extensively recently, neat trucks.

I'd love to have a 4.0 oil burner!

My Duramax was an awesome truck. Almost 3000lbs heavier than my Tundra, Crew Cab, 4x4, running on 285's, shitload of power, could tow 6000 without feeling it (in the Tundra, I "felt" a 3-rail motorcycle trailer with 2 dirtbikes on it).....
400 cubic inches of oil burner compared to the Tundra's 283, and they got the same MPG... 16-18.
