I went to talk to the dealer(I just got back), Sun Toyota of New Port Richey, and told them I heard the factory was still up and producing 2013s. They admitted it was and had given me the wrong information. The sales guy blames his boss for the wrong info but I said he was just as responsible. At that point I went off on him and called him and his boss liars and some other not so nice things. I was pretty angry. He says the factory is out of stock of the spruce micra color and was no longer producing it for 2013 and if I want everything in that color they are saying I have to wait for a 2014. He also said the red and silver is out of stock too and not being made for 2013 as well. I left angry warning them to stop the lies and misinformation and that I would check into what he was saying about the other colors.

I want to apologize for passing misinformation here. I didn't know the info was wrong but I take full responsibility for my part in it and offer my sincerest apologies to the members of this forum and any confusion or anger I may have caused. :(

They're actually in 2nd now - the best Truecar price in Okla is $1081 under msrp, and an out of state dealer is $1626 under msrp, but he's 200 miles away.

Thanks for reporting back. No need to apologize, you were just passing along what you thought was good information. Sucks they did that to you though.

Just got an email from the dealer with the best Truecar discount. Get this, after bragging that he gives the best Truecar discount, he then says he "can get 'pretty close' to that price, but the problem is that the Truecar price only applies to inventory, not orders, and the price quoted in the Truecar certificate of $24,439 is under their invoice". So, the finance guy at my dealer said they lost money on mine. I asked him why they sold it to me at that price. He replied that they do crazy things to hit quotas. I replied whatever. Either they are willing to sell at your price or not. That is the beauty of not being in a hurry.

FYI, I got mine at $1500 under Edmunds true market. I no longer have much faith in the average prices on web.

I can't even get him to commit to his own Truecar price, much less match a better one!:frusty:

FYI, the Truecar dealer says they are still building 2013s and he can get one in Spruce Green.

I told him that he could order the truck I want for his inventory, and then the Truecar price would be valid. He said he couldn't do that for two reasons: 1. I might back out, sticking him with a Spruce Green truck, a color no one will buy. 2. Toyota won't let him order a truck without a down payment.

He then made the following statement, believe it or not: "As far as ordering a truck, you figure out what you want and the price is what it is." :rimshot:

last weekend I saw an ad for $4000 off on Camrys. That tells me that there is more room to move off Tacoma's than these dealers are offering up.

I would go to Clearwater Toyota and deal with Steve Kane. He used to be the internet manager at Sun Toyota and now works at Clearwater. I bought my Tundra from him when he was at Sun and never any problems. Sun Toyota isn't what they used to be and which is why I bought my Tacoma at Clearwater and got a damn good deal.

Out of a color??? I know I saw every color available rolllling down the line this week and they were 2013's. Salesmen are lower than lawyers and tow truck drivers.

I might do that. I got an email from their Internet dept yesterday asking if I was still looking for a truck. I haven't pulled the order from Sun yet. I can get my deposit back anytime I want and I'm thinking I should go look some more. Not going today. I have to work and I'm not in the best of moods when it comes to sales people right now. ;) Clearwater has a $699 dealer fee though. That was the one thing Sun doesn't make a customer pay.

Thanks for the link. Just did a CarsDirect and got a target price of $24,045, which is $300 lower than Truecar, and 5 participating dealers, 4 within 50 miles. One is a dealer I'm already talking to, and one is the first dealer I contacted about a month ago, and was so disinterested they handed me a brochure without even getting my name, and said they couldn't sell an inventory Spruce Green for less than msrp - so why did they hook up with CarsDirect? I suspect some dealers are using these buying services as a bait and switch technique.

The General Manager over at Sun is also telling me they cannot order a 2013 with all the features I want and in spruce mica from the factory. It has to be a 2014 order. I got some other dealers looking into this 2013/2014 issue as well. I'll report back anything I find.
