^^ They changed my color on the line lol. Had to pay a deposit but it was changed. Dealers are full of shit. They are trying to sell all their year end inventory before 2014 starts shipping. This is why you are seeing some sales right now. If one dealer doesn't want to roll with you go somewhere else and play them against each other. Call around and see who wants to play ball then go down there. Good Luck!

Careful on the interpretation. To the dealer they DID lose money but not in the way we are thinking. Dealer losing $$ = Not as big of a profit as they intended. They have no reason to "lose" money even to meet a "quota". Sure they get incentives but its not worth a loss in principle for them. Plus if you financed through them I am sure they found a way to make up that principle plus some in fees.

Of course. But my parents bought a 2012 Camry with a TrueCar quote from one of the 3 listed dealers for almost $6k cheaper than MSRP. He called the dealerships listed and only one of them wanted his business. The salesman took the quoted price from TrueCar and made it happen. It's a 3 hour round trip from his house, so he went down to the local Toyota dealer, said he had this dealership with this car at this price and they basically said "Good luck with that."

So it does get results, but also I'm sure it's a giant marketing tool that gets people on the lot for Car A at $X. Then you can show off Car B with "this option your car doesn't have that you might like.." at $X + $X. So buyer of a stripped car for $200 a month can get smooth talked into a loaded one for only $300, say.

But anyway, my long winded point was that those price quote sites do work, you just have to find a dealer willing to play ball.

Anyway I wish you luck in the search, this thread makes me even more glad I found my dealer who never once dicked me around on anything and was seriously friendly and nice.

I went through 6 dealerships. Oddly enough the salesman my parents used for their Camry was the first one I called when I wanted a truck. He sucked the most, for me.

Well, if you are financing through them I'm guessing they get some of that interest earned on the loan. Right? There is some kick back somewhere there I would imagine.

I used truecar.com to start a local bidding war on a corolla for my daughter recently. Got it for about $4500 off sticker price. I just don't think you'll see that on a tacoma very often.

I know they did not lose money and i did finance through them. I could not beat the 1.29% they got me.

Another update. Clearwater Toyota has told me same as Sun Toyota. Cannot order a 2013 in Spruce Mica. Have to wait for 2014. They can however order a 2013 in any other color I want. Just not the spruce mica. Its looking like if I want the green I have to go with a 2014. And Clearwater Toyota is saying around mid September as well. I'm still waiting to hear from another dealer I been talking to. I'm not holding my breath though.

They can do a dealer to dealer trade to get the vehicle you want. Just means they will have to work a lil on their end to find your truck. Someone should have on their lot still.

Have they given you the specs for the 2014 (i.e. powertrain)? If they are telling you it has to be a 2014 then they should be able to confirm engine, tranny, etc.. It would be nice to confirm or squash the rumors.

I got a call back finally from Toyota of Tampa. They too say they cannot order a 2013 in spruce mica. It has to wait for 2014 models for that color. The guy did say he found out the factory was still making 2013 spruce mica trucks but those are pre ordered ones. Basically they are not taking any *new* orders in spruce mica until the 2014 models go into production. Deliveries expected in September he said.

There are no major changes to the 2014 from what I'm hearing/seeing. My paperwork shows basically the same exact thing as if it was a 2013. My opinion this talk about new engines, powertrain, and etc., is not going to happen in Tacomas this year. If anything it looks to be small minor cosmetic changes if at all. I was also told base cost went up $300 from 2013 base cost.

Edit: BORNWILDGUY, there is no vehicle in the state of Florida with all the options I want and in spruce mica according to all three dealers. They have some pre runners in that color but nothing else. Sun Toyota did a 5 southern state check as well. Nothing in spruce mica and with Entune and the upgraded JBL 7 speaker package. Which I want. They had a few in other colors but not spruce mica.

I'm just going to hold off and get a 2014. I really really want a spruce mica.

Check Orlando Area (32750 or 32710). IDK exactly what you want (Never fully laid out what you are looking for that I can find) but I am seeing lots of Spruce Mica's either in inventory or to be in August.

They have 5 that I see in the color. However none of them have the Entune and 7 JBL speakers packages, and they are LSD and not the automatic full locking diffs in rear. Like I said earlier I'll just have to wait for the 2014s. Its only two more months.

Two of my CarsDirect dealers say they can still get a 2013 Spruce, one is not sure, and one says I can't get a base level AC 2.7 4x4 in Spruce in 2013 or 2014, because they only make them in White, Silver, and Red. LOL

Call the Lawrence, KS dealer. They went above and beyond to get my 2013 a few weeks ago. Did it all over the phone then walked in and signed papers. Yeah, you might wind up in Jayhawk territory but they don't bite.

Bet you're talking about Crown and Josh Sinnard. He wasn't sure he could guarantee the color I want. Eddy's in Wichita offered to order it and drive it to me, but hasn't called back with specifics. Kansas dealers are the easiest to deal with.

Agreed. I just bought a 2013. I live in Jersey and there wasn't a truck around in black with all the features I wanted. The dealership had to make a trade with a place in Virginia. All I had to do was put a $500 deposit down and wait a week.
