Can anyone recommend a less brainy page or place to get answers? I am a terrible troubleshooter and worse mechanic. My A.C. is starting to warm, and the power button is now blinking. I hate to jump right into a dealer or mechanic for obvious cost reasons.

Yeh depending on the nature of your AC issues, if it's not something simple & straightforward, from the sounds of your post you may be better off trying to find a competent, trustworthy mechanic who knows AC well. It's usually not as easy as changing the engine oil or swapping out a noisy pulley.

You are most likely low on refrigerant (R-134a) due to a leak.

You will need a vacuum pump, AC gauges and the know-how on finding and fixing the leak which involves replacing parts. You will also need to drain what refrigerant is left and it's illegal to knowingly release it into the atmosphere. Most people can't perform a system drain so you need to usually have a shop do it (unless your system is totally dry). Given your admission that you aren't a good mechanic or troubleshooter, I think you are better off with a shop. Or a friend that knows what they are doing. Lot's of videos on YouTube if you want to learn but AC is best left to those who are properly equipped with knowledge and proper tools.
