2015 4.0 piston slap

    I am running the one that Valvoline put in I’m just assuming is not a very good one because it’s a drive-through or change place. Thinking about putting a wix or OEM - also to the poster before this one. I think it is 5w

    Sounds to me like your not letting the truck warm up on a cold start, regardless of the temp these engines like to be warmed up before trowing it into gear (IMO). I go 3-5 mins in the summer and a full 10 minutes in the winter.

    If that doesn't help try running full synthetic and 93 fuel.

    The 4.0 is noisy, roll the window up.

    My 06 4.0L developed a loud rattle/knock until it reached full temp. First noticed it at 110,000mi. Couldn't find an issue, assumed it was piston slap and traded it in at 160,000mi for a pittance. I couldn't bring myself to sell it privately with obvious issues (frame was rusty too). So much for resale and reliability.

    LOL I can hear it from the cab. I just got the oil changed today with penzoil conventional and put a wix filter on it.
