I just upgraded from a 1999 tacoma to a 2015 tacoma sport. While playing in our first snow storm in 4wd, as soon as your rpm is up and you are going good the engine dies to almost nothing and leaves you stuck. I read some posts on here with no definitive answer if this can be disabled. The only button on the dash is traction control. You have the option of on/off and you can also hold it in for 3 to 5 seconds and dash will display "trac off" and it will show a "vehicle with squiggle marks" . The truck still loses power in any of these modes. Low range is unlimited however you cannot get enough wheel speed in low range and 3ft of snow to do anything.. My 99' was way better in the snow. I have been playing in farm fields all morning and am ready to sell the 15'. Does anyone know if this is normal and/or can be disabled???? Thanks in advance!!!

3 feet of snow - is your air filter packed full of snow?

No, it is automatic. The rpms are up and the truck is going good with plenty of wheel speed. Then it just dies! Then the rpms will come back up, but by then you done lost all momentum. Then the rpms will drop again. This truck is useless in the snow compared to prior vehicles.

Okay I'm not sure but it sounds like your traction control is kicking in and limiting the amount your tires can spin.... so when your in 2 high and 4 high you need to put the truck in neutral, press the breaks and hold down the traction control button for 5ish seconds until the dash changes.. that will completely disable traction control.

Not sure if this is what your asking but that is what it sounds like is happening.

airfilter is fine, snow in VA is between 20 and 36" depending on terrain and drifts.

I think something is malfunctioning as I cannot imagine toyota having such a feature??? I have read owners manual and tried the traction button and the vehicle reacts the same.

Are you just pressing the traction control button or are you going in neutral and holding it down until it completely disables?

truck in hi 4wd and in neutral, holding down till both indicator lights come on in dash. Once you get wheel speed and rps up the truck just dies. Almost to point you cant tell its running, then it gradually comes back to life and repeats itself??? I have owned many 4wd vehicles including lifted jeeps with front and rear lockers, so I am very familiar with most aspects of offroading and playing in snow. Something has to not be working properly. I was hoping someone would have had the exact problem and had a simple fix.

The only was to prevent that is to pull the abs fuse or do the mod to have abs on a switch. Even with all the nannys turned off they still take control in extreme situations.
