First of all, thank you all for all your helpful tips and info! So, I've narrowed it down to these two choices:
    2015 Base - $23K 98K miles
2013 TRD - $22K 83K miles (Salvaged title due to theft, insurance paid out, but nothing damaged)

They seem comparable in all respects. But I know that TRD's are sturdier with better suspension and off road capability. Though I don't plan on doing lots of off roading. Therefore, I'm leaning more toward the 2015. But I've heard that 2013 was a great year for Tacomas. Thoughts?

Any feedback will be much appreciated.

If you ever think that you'll sell the truck. Don't buy a salvaged titled vehicle. Plus, your insurance will most likely give you an adverse reaction to Salvage title vehicle, if it ever came time to pay you.
Some people will buy them, but they know that they'll never be trying to sell them down the road.
Plus the price is high for a vehicle with that title.
I'm sure more will speak up about this.

This is just my 2 cents.

If the 2013 is a Sport, I wouldn’t even consider it. Not with a Salvaged, No way at that price.

My opinion is, the 2015 is likely the better option.
I wouldn’t even consider the 2013 if it were an Off-Road my self.

TRD's aren't as special as they are made out to be, its just a trim level with different shocks. If you want to offroad there's better than TRD shocks and the SR5 will be better off. The sport is a hood scoop and the offroad is a rear locker and an offroad atrac mode on some models.

Don't buy a salvage, it won't have any resale and it's someone elses headache.

Closing in at 100,000 miles on both vehicles, I wouldn't let trade-in be a deciding factor to you, as I doubt that will be something you consider anytime soon. They'll probably be pushing 200k before that time comes around. Honestly, I would look at the features you desire, what each vehicle has, and get that vehicle. Trd offroad has the locking diff, Trd sport the limited slip diff... Not sure which Trd you're considering. But most truck owners in my experience will never engage their 4wd or locking diffs in the life of their truck (in my neck of the woods, at least), so if the off-roady thing isn't important to you then get what the truck offers you in terms of the other amenities.

I don't buy anything with a salvage title...you don't know how much work/damage was done to that truck and it will never be worth as much for trade-in/resale in the future.

Not entirely sure why everyone is automatically scared at "salvage title." Look into why and determine for yourself if it is worth it. I've owned salvage titles before without any issues, including one that was previously totalled out from a head on collision. It drove straight as an arrow and had no issues that weren't related to it being a 15 year old vehicle at the time.

    I agree with that sentiment.

But in addition to having a known history of why it was designated such (like I saw it before it was repaired)

    1) most lenders won't finance a salvage title. Lots of people require financing.

    2) Some insurers won't insure a salvage title.

    3) Salvage titles should be bought at 1/2 - 2/3 of retail for a non salvage equivelent. And they aren't usually for sale at those prices. The reason is that is what you are going to see the insurance floating around if you tangle it up again, or the impact if you try to trade it in someday.

    Upshot.

Salvage can be a great value if you have all the above covered, plan on keeping it a long time and work it hard.

    Example.

Many an early Miata has been totaled due to a minor front collision that breaks up the plastic nose, sets off airbags and the PS bag breaks the windshield. The bags alone can total the car value wise. But the nose and windshield are easy to swap at low cost and the bags can be eliminated, setting a great budget foundation for a killer autox vehicle

I guess I can understand the financing and insurance, but those should also be determined before you actually purchase anything. In Michigan, for example, it is illegal to drive a vehicle on the road without insurance and there is no grace period. You are expected to have that vehicle on your insurance before you drive it home from wherever you purchased it from (dealership or private sale), so, at least insurance wise, you should know already. Dealerships also don't like you to leave without the payment in order so, in theory, you should know that as well. This all, of course, assuming you've already determined the vehicle to be worth it to buy in the first place.

Nice! I don’t think you’ll regret the decision, the base are easy to upgrade with new takeoffs from other peoples builds...if you feel it’s necessary.
