The 2nd gen.front end refresh is from 12-15.Not 13-15,just saying.I've had absolutely no problems with my 12.

I had an '05 and currently have a '15. I think both are great and drive very similar, however, my '05 was a MT. I just love these trucks, regardless of year. If the '15 is "the best" then I'm happy to own one!

2012 is known for the secondary pump issues..on TW anyway. This has been discussed and it seems the majority of TW members will say 2013 is the "best" year. Re design, no/little secondary pump issues, it's not a third gen, and it's late in the model run. I'm not biased because I have a 2013. I only have it because that's what the local dealer had when I bought used and I didn't know any better so I bought it. In the end..they're all fine. (Even the 2016's so I don't get banned)

2015 is the best year of the 2nd gens... just like the '04 is the best 1st gen.... the best 3rd gen will be 2026

no internal or running gear changes were made past 2012.... yet the 2013 has the actual outside temp / auto dimming / reverse cam / compass in mirror. 2014/2015 does not (unless TRD PRO), 2013 also has the separate clock in dash below the radio, 2014/15 does not.

2012 was the introduction of the air injection pumps to the v6's but in 2013 they revised the programming to do a shutdown purge to reduce moisture buildup, this was kept in 2014/2015

The ONLY thing the 2014 n 2015's got that the 2013 didnt was the 3+1 leaf pack by default on ALL 6 lug trucks regardless of trim (built after october 2013, so some early 2014 trucks didnt fall in this). But i had toyota put a 3+1 pack on my 2013 via a tsb so win.

I say the 2013 is the best. but i might be biased.

My 15 has been great to me in the shop now but for a torn cv boot an froze cambolts. I've owned every brand of truck this is my first yota an by far is my favorite. Regardless of year I like the 1st gen looks best but wish it had 2nd gen running gear.

2013. Better smog pump and dash clock for the win.

    Too few to list.
If I had to pick a year, it would be 2011. One year grill, A-trac, no smog pump. 05-06, and 12 would have to be the worst for 2nd gens due to head gasket issues from 05-06 and smog pump/valves for 2012's.

I had a 2017 Tacoma, DC, Off-Road, auto, with the crawl control and what not. Sold it and it picked up a 2014. No regrets. Unless Toyota can address the engine and transmission pairing with the 3rd Gens, the 2nd Gens will continue to be "better" in my opinion.

Love my 2012 but had 2 problems with it so far. Oil leak at the rear main crank shaft oil seal right out of the box (less than 1K on the ODO) and recently had to have the air injection solenoids replaced at 64K ODO (bank 1 stuck closed due to moisture intrusion) Both problems covered by warranty so no complaints from me...

2014 still has the separate clock, and has the reverse camera in the head unit.

I've tried the review mirror mounted camera, and prefer the larger display in the HU.

That said, I wish I had the compass/temp in the mirror.

15 is best because its the end of an era! In all seriousness, its the last of the 2nd gen, and therefore most people will assume its the best of the 2nd gen due to 10 years of perfecting it. The weather app is 1126.5% the dumbest feature I have ever seen though...just put the dang temp in the mirror like normal folks!

"Best" is relative when talking about this truck. For as many issues that we on TW nitpick about, it's still far and away the best mid-size truck on the market. I have a '12 and love it. I like the features in mine that the earlier 2nd gens don't have, but again it's all relative.
