they both come off. but if you look straight across the center of the wheel on both trucks, the tacoma's is about 3" higher.

Colorado Still looks like a chopped up minivan. At least the Taco looks relatively like a truck.

lol it looks just like a TRD Sport. Very similar wheel shape, color matched everything (but with black headlight housings like the SR taco model)

I'm definitely impressed... If I were to buy a Colorado this would be the one... But I don't think I'm going to be getting rid of this 2013 DCSB anytime soon

Since its a GM its crap to begin with, and probibly has the same plastic interior that's falling apart like the rest of their model line. This truck looks just like my neighbors z71 that he got, whats the difference? Now if we are going off straight up looks, this Colorado does look better than the previous gens.

Funny side story: I bought my taco used from a GM dealer in 05 here in town and the sales dude kept trying to get me to test drive a Colorado and i kept refusing. He kept asking why, and i told him its a pile of GM crap and basically an s-10 pile of crap at that! He asked what i am basing that off of, and we pulled my warranty service history off the 99 sierra that i had that i bought from them, and he said "ohh that's why you don't like GM's, i don't blame you" LOL!!

Believe it or not that's why I bought a Tacoma, so I can do both with it.

In three test drives, my favorite part is the step bumper. If that was on a Tacoma? Fugghedabowdit.

If I remember all there trucks can be had with a locker and traction control.

unlike the taco it is a normal locker and will work all the time. No speed or 4x4 low limit.

^G80 "locker" requires 100 rpm speed difference between two wheels to lock, and it unlocks when the speed difference is gone. In effect it behaves like the auto-LSD function on Tacomas - jerky but helps with launching on slippery surfaces, that's why it was also offered on Camaros. It isn't useful for off-road crawling and GM knows this - hence the ZR2 concept was shown with e-lockers.

With the GearOn Special Edition, I think GM looked at what accessories/mods were popular on Tacomas, and decided to offer similar items (BHLM projectors, painted grille and mirrors, step rails, bed divider...) in a standard-priced package, to minimize typical dealer gouging for add-ons.

It'll be interesting to see if these accessories will be factory-installed, port-installed, or dealer-installed. The last one introduces some variability in workmanship.

But at least it is there when you need the traction.
no button to shift and no reason to put it in low range or cut out at 5 mph.
Also it can be had across the line up unlike the locker in the taco they will not put it in a LB 4d.

And don't go telling me a rear locker in the diff is like the LS that uses the brakes in the taco are the same...
Not even close. I own both. Not even on the same planet. ..

I still don't get why people on TW think if you don't offroad you should drive a Prius. It's such a lame mentality. I use my truck as a truck to haul tools, my dirt bike, lumber and much more. I have 0 interest in 4x4, locked, atrac etc. I bet my truck gets more use then most as an actual truck and I would love more luxury inside. I like the looks of the new GM\chevys but am very wary of their reliability. My next truck will be what works best for me no matter what emblems are on it.

Auto-LSD is there on all Taco trim levels, even 2WD 5-lugger models. It doesn't cut out at 5 mph either.

Except the G80 isn't like a e-locker, air locker, or a mechanical locker like Detroit Trutrac. The G80 is an open diff until there's a 100 rpm speed difference between the two wheels. There's no way to engage it ahead of time. Climbing steep off-camber grades with the G80, at best you'll get stuck, at worst the "locker" engages suddenly and send you tumbling down the hill.

Only way to get a real locker on the Colorado would be on the ZR2 trim level, if GM decides to make it someday and doesn't water it down too much from the concept model.

To call something a LSD would you not think that there needs to be something in the diff?
There is nothing in the diff it is open.

The Auto LSD is nothing more than a traction control that uses the brakes to control the wheel spin.

And when you are pulling out from the side of the road in grass or dirt it does nothing to help you get going faster.

    Try it....
Look at the older Taco with a Posi or LS vs The Auto LSD VS the locker in the TRD
    All toyota products...

The Old LSD or locker will work so much better....

    BTW look into the G80
Maybe you do not know much about it...
I have worked on many. They may not be the best. There is always a better system for anything.
The ones I used and worked on were a posi, had clutch packs and then the cam that let them lock up when needed.
For normal road use a system that is in place all the time is the best. Something like a Eaton Posi or cone maybe gear type come to mind.
For off road a spool can not be beat for traction.
