Oh man I had a 1987 VW golf 4 door manual trans for my first car. Powder blue. Fugly as hell.... here my dad owned a damn ford dealership and he made me drive this pos....I was so angry with him for that but he was trying to teach me nice new things do not come free. He got it on a trade from some old lady. He also wanted me to learn to drive a manual, said if I could learn to drive that I could drive anything and that it was a useful skill to have. It had an idle issue they couldnt really figure out. I kept it a few years took care of it like the old man told me to then sold it. He never to this day gave me a car.

Basically in my mind there's a bunch of pissed off elderly men in fishing hats who seriously hate their new colorado/canyons and are literally screaming complaints at a computer screen because they can't figure out how to get onto the internet. So that's totally skewing the numbers brah.

I know 3 people that have the same 2006 TDI as me and they've had a bunch of issues, or just not in as good of condition as mine with similar mileage. Could be how it was maintained by them but ya, they think VW is shit now lol.

Picturing the older guys I work with yelling at their company phones (usually blackberry or iPhone) because they can't figure out how to send an email or something.

I hear you on consistency. I just felt like going back to Toyota was a no brainer after such a great experience with my 1st gen. I feel really let down by Toyota on this one. Something didn't quite sit right on the handful of test drives I took with the 2016 tacos but I wrote it off and should have gone with my gut and held out for awhile. Our 2016 4runner is a beauty though. If i didn't need a truck bed I'd ditch the truck upgrade the wife to a Lexus or Acura SUV then maybe keep the runner for myself.

Nope..that's a legit complaint about the GM 2015/2016 transmission. From what I've learned from the Colorado forums - there's a wide variety of complaints (or how bald people claim it to be).
The new 2017's have a different engine & transmission now, so I don't know if this condition still exists.

My truck was pretty bad - you'd drive between 30-40mph and coast for a bit. Once you get on the gas lightly after coasting...truck would hiccup and stutter. You'd have to lay your foot on the gas to wake it up. I've since had the Transmission programming update. It's much better than it was but its certainly not perfect. It still stutters from time to time.

These are generalizations, but they're true to a point. I know plenty of older folks that refuse to drive anything other than domestic, and for most of them this is entirely due to their indoctrination into the "buy American or you're a filthy commie" bull that they were subjected to for so many years of their lives. They don't even consider non-domestic vehicles.

The younger generations grew up with the internet, social media, and exposure to vast amounts of information and differing opinions. Once in a while this forces people to question their own opinions and preconceptions, and perhaps change their point of view. There is (obviously) still an incredibly large amount of self-serving propaganda, but it is no longer the ONLY information people have access to.

I'd love to see some real stats on demographics and age of people who purchase domestics vs. imports, and how those stats have progressed over the last ~20 years. I can't help but think that a very large chunk of the domestic vehicles' market will disappear along with the baby boomers.

I don't know the details of the tacoma complaints... I thought the Tacoma complaints were up at highway speeds or while towing?

The GMC tranny hiccups/stutters going 30mph....ish.....

I will point out....the Younger generation grew up with the internet, social media, and the media - all of which can be totally full of crap, fake, and swayed. And guess what? They believe every word of it.

If people could think for themselves, make up their own decisions based on what they WANT or NEED in a vehicle. Each manufacturer has its pros/cons. If you're ever unhappy with something - get rid of it and move on to something else.

My 1st Brand New Car was a 1988 2 Door Golf, was a damn good car that I drove everywhere, had it 200,000 Miles and 11 Years and it got totaled in an accident.

Reading and vetting online complaints / reviews is somewhere between a science and a total crapshoot.

I thoroughly research any major purchase I make, and even some trivial ones. Tires, PC parts, firearms, you name it. Reviews can be a huge help, but you gotta sorta take it with a grain of salt until you can establish their credibility.

I tend to throw out reviews that are WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS AND ARE ONE SINGLE RUN ON SENTANCE WITH TERRIBLE GRAMMAR AND SPELLING THAT BARELY MAKES ANY SENSE. Those tend to be easily weeded out as the clear morons.

After that though, you sort of have to be a little bit more like a detective. Is this persons handle "Xx_ToyotaSuxBallz420_xX"? maybe they have an axe to grind.:rofl:Are they talking about doing something dumb with the product? Maybe they just aren't making much sense with their complaints, or saying contradictory things.

The same applies to rave reviews- are they posting up to convince themselves that it was an awesome purchase, or is this genuinely a good review? Paying close attention to how they talk about their perceived flaws in the product can be pretty revealing. "Aside from the fact that it caught on fire, and doesn't work anymore, it's AWESOME!!!!" A big thing here is price justification too. When someone gets ass-blasted that a cheaper brand performed just as well, they tend to double down on name-calling.

I tend to sort of take each review with a grain of salt but look for a pattern. If the overall pattern is good or bad, or points out a specific flaw a number of times, then I can get a better idea of what I'm looking at.

Unfortunately the ones with an ax to grind speak louder and more often than those of us who are happy with our purchase. Im with Janster, if you dont like it get rid of it and move on. You re only making yourself miserable keeping something you hate.

Not all old people are like you say. Hell, my dads going to be 83 . He researched online , went for test drives and then bought his last 3 vehicles online .The newest was just last month , a 17 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 single cab short box. All of his buddies from high school are computer savvy .

That would work in a perfect world but not everyone can afford to take a haircut on such a large purchase by ditching it.

Not much of a bath with the Taco's resale value. If I hated my truck I would get rid of it. You can always go to something cheaper.
