Hi Crutchfield supplies wire adapters. They are plug and play. They also supply ABS speaker mounting adapters. They take a bit of modifying but it is pretty simple.

So I just had an audio shop installed the Kenwood powered sub for me for 100 bucks. The installation diagram seems very simple, but I thought I'd rather spend 2 hours working instead, while the (pro) technician install it :)

The sub came with all the wires needed to hook up. I only turned the sub gain up to 1/4 and it punches really nice. The tech routed the sub remote to the console and mounted the sub under the driver's seat, very neat.

Just wanted to share the info, in case someone want a simple and cheap upgrades with great sounding.

Replaced all factory speakers (I did this myself) and added a powered sub (audio shop installed) for under $500.

This is why people don't read old posts to get info and just re-post old messages. You have to weed through members who really just don't add too much. I actually am interested in this information and had to scroll through this garbage. I think everyone on here (including the OP) understands the grammatical mistake he made lol. Way to get him Grammar Nazi.

There are some mixed responses about speaker upgrades w/o amps. I am interested in a Kenwood Excelon HU w/ a nice component speaker upgrade and sound-deadening. The cab is pretty small but I hate to have the entire interior stripped and NOT go with an amplifier/subwoofer upgrade. But then again, it's the stereo/lift debate I am having in my gray matter here...

It doesn't "refer" to the head unit. It is the brand name of the head unit. I think this is a very misleading usage of "refer."

You are mistaken in saying he doesn't understand parts of speech. This is a false assumption on your part. Also, you said "I'd recommend" when "I recommend" is shorter and more concise. Your use of the contraction for 'would' is unnecessary.

What? Are you also eating his breakfast? This makes no sense. This is a very awkward phrase. You might be incorrectly trying to enlighten him, or incorrectly trying to troll him, but I don't believe you are actually "constructing his misunderstanding." He doesn't have a misunderstanding -- he understood what he posted (so did everyone else). You can't construct something that doesn't exist.

Wow, I used to hate obnoxious time-and-space wasting grammer* Nazi dorks, but I really see the allure!

    * I left this typo here for the grammar weenie to jump on. Go for it! Help the thread more!!

I'd be interested to hear if you did the slim powered sub or not. I was thinking behind the back seat in one of the shelfs in mt '15 TRD Sport

Sorry, ive been out of the audio game since high school and forgot most of this stuff. Is there a recommended impedance of speaker to use?

This whole thread was a little hard to follow, but the essence of it appears to be that the JBLs that were recommended to sqa4life would fit the bill, however I'm not clear whether they were a plug-and-play install (other than the required hole drilled in the one pair).

Could you please clarify? I've got a line on these speakers and want to know if any other odds and ends are required...

    TIA

If you want a good plug and play with your current headunit, go with some JBL speakers that are rated for lower power output. Order from Crutchfield and they usually throw in the speaker adapters and wire harnesses for free. If you get something rated for a higher power output, the stock headunit won't push it adequately and it will sound faint. Go to crutchfield.com and input your vehicle and see what they have.

Sorry, I'm in Canada and Crutchfield's Canadian portal doesn't show any products.

Not quite following what you're saying about "getting something rated for a higher power will mean that the stock head unit won't push it adequately and will sound faint".

What I know of speakers is that the key factors that have to do with what you're saying have to do with impedance, and sensitivity. Is this what you're trying to say?

Thanks for the offer, John - my intent is to upgrade my speakers, and possibly repurpose a good 2 channel (bridged to one) amp and a 10" Pioneer sub with the factory HU...

Yes those are both accurate statements. As mentioned before, you need to go with a 4ohm speaker because that is what your unit is pushing. I don't know about the 16's, but the prior years Entune headunit pushed somewhere in the neighborhood of 8W RMS which is not much. If you look at the specifications for most speakers on the interwebs, you will see a power rating (i.e. 2-20W RMS). You want something in the 2-3 watt range on the low end to get the drive on the speakers with no amplified signals. Anything over 5 watts and you will have to crank the shit out of your stereo to get the quality of sound you are looking for. Go with some JBL GTO 6x9's and some JBL GT7 coaxials for the rear and leave the stock tweeters for a budget system and don't plan to replace the head unit and/or amplifiers. That will sound good regardless of what people on hear will chime in about. That being said, if you are going to do it, do it big and you won't regret it. I have Focal components in the front and Focal coaxials in the rear with an Alpine amp and a Kenwood shallow subs. Buy once cry once as a wise person on here once told me.....and jam the f&*k out the rest of the time after you drop the cash. That's what I did and never looked back once!

If you need some help, I just did a very comprehensive install to include sound deadening all the doors, back and the floor as well as build custom enclosures for everything. It takes time but with the right planning you can do it in steps and have an awesome system for a fraction of the price that you would pay for it at an audio shop. Let me know if I can help.
