Hey guys, I've been looking at 2015 Tacoma's recently and wanted some insight on if what I'm looking at is worth it or not. The current truck is a 2015 with 59.8k miles listed for 25k from a private seller. It's a DCSB O/R and was licensed as a commercial vehicle. A small company, looked like it was used by one guy. I believe the company was related to fire sprinkler installation. Probably just driven to a site and back. Carfax shows basic oil changes every 5-7k miles. He was/is the only owner. I noticed the front shocks were not in great shape. And the rear shocks had this black tar-ish coating on them. Are they leaking/done for?? (See image) And all 4 tires probably need replacing since there is some cracking on them. Interior is spotless and I'm probably going to test drive it sometime this week since he was away when I went to first see it. Frame looks good for New England weather. Needs some wire brushing here and there but nothing crazy by the looks of it. What should I be willing to pay for a truck like this knowing tires probably won't pass inspection and might have to replace all 4 shocks?

Kbbs private for around 28k I’d voice your concerns of having to replace shocks and struts as well as tires and offer 23-23.5. I think 25k could be a fair price as is seeing what the used Tacoma market is like. But end of the day it’s your money. If it was a commercial/fleet vehicle is just be worried about how much idling that truck has done. I know a lot of guys who start their truck at 7am and doesn’t shut off until they get home at 4.

Yeah that's a great point, I'm definitely going to ask him about what it was thru and everything. We'll See what he says. Luckily he's the only owner so he should know everything.

I think $23k would be more of a fair price, but the guy is not far off considering the low miles. Looks like a nice truck and makes me miss my 2012! (see signature for build/photos).

If this is what you are in the market for, I think it is a good buy. Try to get him to come down one to two thousand bucks, and you'll have agreat buy.

Have the same vehicle, and I’m surprised by the amount of rust I’m seeing on the shocks (and LCA’s?) compared to what the frame appears to look like. Seems like the frame only has limited surface rust on welds and some edges? That’s a good thing, but make sure you get under the whole vehicle and thoroughly inspect that frame. Paint and interior look good.

You’re up north in a salt state so I guess that explains things but I still think it’s odd how rusted just the suspension components are.

For reference, I bought mine about two years ago from a dealership in Charlotte with 32K miles, for $26K. Take that with a grain of salt as it’s a different region and was in non-pandemic price inflation circumstances.

That's my hope, I can replace parts myself, I'm glad the frame is good cause that I can't replace

Ya I was confused myself cause the frame looked like surface rust but the LCA's definitely seem to have taken a beating. I've seen several trucks also and most of the time it's the rear axle that's beat. This is the only truck where the front looked worse. That was also something I'm debating. Should I just wait a year until this inflation bs cools down...

how do you like the truck? It's exactly the same so maybe you have some advise for me?

Absolutely love my truck. It suits all my needs very well. Daily driver, tows my boat locally, beach driving, light off roading when opportunity arises. Very capable all stock, tire selection is important. I really like having the rear locker.

Getting a discount for suspension components that need replacing could be a nice opportunity for a shock upgrade. I have stock shocks with no issues but have looked into upgrades for a variety of reasons, both for a small lift and for performance. You would have a wide variety of options, fun problem to have.

    Hope it works out!

Saw the truck today. Seller was super nice and seemed to be trustworthy. Didn't beat it or anything. The truck drove like it was on a cloud honestly. There was a bit of up and down bounce, i don't know if that's normal or not. It wasn't like a large bounce but the truck felt like there was a up/down sway. Literally felt like a cloud. Didn't know if that's normal. Other than that the driving was fine. My only other concern was that the fan seemed to have a very slight squeal to it on cold start. Might've been a belt, but it sounded like it was In front of the engine and then faded slowly. Maybe an old serpentine belt. Does anyone know of this?
