2015 DCSB TRD Sport - $3k Initial Budget!

Hey Gents/Gals,

I've been lurking here for quite a while and I must say the community is amazing. So informative and helpful (and overwhelming at times!).

I've always been a Chevy guy but decided to make the jump to Tacoma this year and it was the right decision! Ironically, my chevy truck died in the parking lot of the Toyota dealership. The service guy loved it and took lots of photos!

Anyway, I have $3k budgeted for mods/installation right now. I just got a set of 265/70/17 Duratracs from a friend and would like to get a lift and maybe new wheels.

I'm normally out on the beach or in the woods/off road a few times a month so it won't be a mall crawler.

Re: the lift - I've read for hours and hours and still am going back and forth between Billies set at 1.75 and calling it good for now or going up to the OME full suspension lift or Billy coilover lift or something else awesome I don't even know about.

I realize this is pretty subjective, but any thoughts/input? I know the mods are endless on these, but I'm trying to come up with a "plan of action" that won't get me in trouble with Household 6!

Really appreciate the insight. Pumped to be a Tacoma owner. Think I'll drive this until they take my license away.

 

I have the 5100's on my new Sport at 1.75 and love how it leveled it out. Ride is just as smooth or smoother to me.

 

Welcome! Both are good choices but the OME will put you at 3" so not sure if you want to go that high with only 265s

 

Do you have to run spacers with the 265/70/17? I went to my local off road joint and he said they would rub. I'd actually prefer to just do tires and not have a full 3" lift (though I could probably be swayed by expert opinion!).

for 3k you can go all in with the full ome lift and 285's. do it right the first time and you wont regret it.

 

Yea you could even set them at 0.85 and not rub

I tend to agree with this.

 

You are on the right track. My advice...do the 5100s ($600 installed/aligned) , and a new set of wheels($400-$800).
Maybe get a 32" light bar for your lower valence. While I think the 3" lift and 285s look great. Your mileage will take a hit. Unless you are serious off-roader, I think the 5100s/265 will make you totally happy, easier on the budget, and will still be fully capable off-road.

You should be able to run those tires on stock suspension. I have 5100s set at .85 and wishing had just got an ome set up. I've been on those beaches in nc and mine rode rough. And rear bottomed out over bumps. If you've got 3 k. I'd get full ome springs and shocks and a progressive aal. Maybe also look into an air compressor for airing back up when you leave the beach

I live in NC down by Carolina Beach. I will say having a 3" lift & bigger tires is nicer IMO on the beach. I've had billies set at 1.75 before with 265's and I didn't like it that much for off-roading or the beach. If you plan to stay on the street, that option is good though. Pm if you head down this way sometime.

 

If you do go with the OME shocks I would recommend this kit (Click Here) which will run about $1,600 with UCA's which are needed for going 3". A leaf pack would be much better than just doing add a leaf (AAL). Also can't beat the price! No shipping or tax

I've watched the gif in your signature at least 50 times today. Stinkin' hilarious!

 

256 / 70 / 17's should work on the stock set up with no issues, basically the same dimensions as a 265/75/16 and those fit just fine on stock Taco's. Stock was 265/65/17 so you are only bumping up one size which normally works just fine. Mount the suckers and see how it goes. Check out the tire size calculator and it will give average sizes of most tires etc.
