As a lifelong fan of both series, I'll admit F1 is the pinnacle of race tech. No one can deny this fact. You are correct that this visual is outdated (looks to be 2004-2006 era?), it's also pretty biased towards F1; especially from the "polar opposites" section and on down. BTW, the new gen Cup cars are hitting 215 diving into turn one at Michigan. Not to derail this thread or not to place myself at the bottom of a fanboy dog pile, but NASCAR is (thankfully & finally) racing its tech bar. They've implemented blended unleaded racing fuels, fuel injection, digital dash boards and cockpit driver adjustments among other things. Plus, comparing the tech between the two series is really moot. The philosophy behind NASCAR was always to keep it low-tech.

 

That's been the word for awhile. They were planning to dip into NASCAR with the Passat or CCR, going so far as doing some mock-ups and meeting and touring with teams & tracks in the US towards the end of 2010. Then the recession hit NASCAR, sponsors bailed, fans bailed, ratings dropped, ticket sales hit free-fall, Dodge bailed and it didn't make long-term financial sense to invest (yet F1 seems to pay off? )

Hence the rolling laughter. It's obviously a gamble to jump into (or back into F1). The technology evolution is much quicker than most American racing series. Haas is looking at a monumental mountain. I know a couple guys doing some of the onboard carbon fiber and CF pit stuff for them and they're really rolling with some neat stuff. I hope it pays off for VW as I'm a longtime VW fan.

 

Oh yeah dude, I totally agree with you. I was just replying to the info on the visual. I think more than NASCAR engineers, actual NASCAR brass would have their minds blown by F1 tech. It's clear whenever a NASCAR driver has the opportunity to get into an older F1 car, they are very intimidated. I imagine it's a wild experience. Range of vision changes, physical body movement is nearly nothing and then the acceleration and braking must be insane.
