    Hi Guys!!

I just purchased a 2015 TRD Off Road model with 10K on her. The dealer filled it a week ago and I just filled it today. I got 14.6 MPG!! My commute is 50-50 and my RPMs are kept under 2000, usually around 1500. I haven't even floored it or gone in 4x4...yet...

The truck is stock, no performance mods, still got the BFG Rugged Trails, etc.

I am the "1st" owner as it was a Managers Demo vehicle. I read the truck may "learn" the way you drive. Is it possible the computer will re-learn?

What else can I check? I'm just looking to average 18ish MPG.

Thanks in advance for you help!!!

Location? If it is cold where you are, than that sounds about right. Also, was it ethanol blended fuel? Again it sounds about right. Once the summer blend hits and don't use ethanol blended fuel and you will see better mpg's.

to put it nicely....not much. there are alot of factors involved with MPGS, most of which you have no control over. you should notice some increase as the weather changes and it starts getting warmer. my truck never saw over 18 mpg in stock form and i have a 20 mile commute each way to work every day...mostly highway. when i did my lift and wheels it dipped a bit to about 16.5 to 17. in the winter time with warming my truck up in the morning etc, im less than 14. thankfully, gas is under $2.00 now and i use premium so i dont worry about MPGs.

Hi mschein1, I'm in RI. I did see other members say they had a drop in MPG with the winter blend, but it seemed to be 2ish off of what they were used to getting.
I hope it's just the winter gas. I wasn't expecting that low of mileage. I braced myself...well my wallet for 18mpg...

If you want the computer to "learn", unplug the battery, but be warned, you will probably lose your radio station presets and your trip odometer readings. Did you spend at lot of time idling? Stop and go traffic? Really cold weather? Have you checked tire pressure (cold)? Did dealership zero the trip odometer when they filled the tank? Dealership may have not truly filled the tank, when you did, did you stop at first "click" or continue to fill to the very top - difference can be 2.5 gallons. Suggest measuring another tank or two before doing the "relearn".

I just fueled it, so I'm ok with losing the trip readings. I don't hit much stop and go during my commute times. I have not checked the tire pressure (shame on me), I will. I assumed the dealer did all of that. The dealer did reset the trip when I got it, the needle was over the F line on the gauge when i picked it up. The needle is in the same spot after filling it this morning, yes I continued to fill it after the 1st click of the pump.

I filled 13.001 gallons and had 190.3 miles on the trip...

Will the grade of fuel make a difference with the trucks? I've always owned small 4 cylinder engined cars, pardon my ignorance.

Unless you have a supercharger, no, and if you enjoy wasting money on premium gas heh.

    winter gas sucks ass

    wait till summertime

    35psi all around

drive light footed average 45-50mph should see 19mpg no major hills
    ------------------------------------------------

I easily average 14mpg short trips and heavy foot
    [and worse with winter gas]

    but also

when I am thinking of saving gas I can make that same trip type 17mpg

and on roads 45-55 mph it is 21 mpg easy

I would not recommend filling past the first click. There are some threads about overfilling and potential consequences if you search. Some people may not care. My truck actually threw a code before due to overfilling which the dealer had to reset.

I keep the rpm's low...1500-2k low. I've never driven the speed limit, ever, well until this past week with the truck. The mileage still sucked lol. I'll really hope the summer blend thing is better. Then I'll stock up a few barrels of it lol!

The 4.0 can live under 2000rm pretty much all the time. Lots of low rpm torque. Probably makes more torque at 1500 than the 2.7 makes anywhere.

I'll check the pressure I swear! It's the stock tires...I don't recall the size. I saw a SR5 with narrower tires.

I've been getting around 15mpg lately. Even with some 4hi and warm ups on cold days. I floor it all the time too though, but do mostly highway driving. When I was in college, I lived about 3 km from the school. With all short trips, during the winter my old 2003 stock 3rz 5speed would get single digit mpgs at least once or twice.

It sounds as if you're calculating off of the dealer's fill up and then your fillup. I would wait a bit longer before you start looking for solutions. At least a few tanks before you'll know any real 'average', especially if you don't know exactly HOW much the dealer filled it up - i.e. to first click, second click, etc.

Relax. One tank isn't an average by any stretch of the imagination.
