Hey folks, who wants to drive down the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world?

If you have never been to or heard of PINS, check out this page. http://www.nps.gov/pais/index.htm.

$10 will get you on the island for a week. You can camp where ever you want on the beach, just stay out of the dunes.

I am planning on making the weekend out of it. Head onto the island on Saturday September 5th and camp that night and Sunday night.

I will be coming down from College Station if anyone is looking to convoy.

I will have a gas grill and a canopy. I will also have 10 gallons of spare fuel and moderate recovery gear and compressor.

Plan to meet at the Malaquite Visitor Center at noon on Saturday September 5th.

All makes and models welcome! The more the merrier, I may have a Nissan and a Heep tagging along with me.

I think as long as we don't try the whole thing during high tide we will be fine.

I have a normal fuel range of about 300 miles. If I assume sand fuel range is half I can go 150 miles, which kinda cuts it close. That's why I'll be carrying 10 extra gallons. That will extend my sand range 70ish miles.

But a good point to bring up. We must be fuel aware and prepared.

Just went a few weeks back. Perfect driving conditions went all the way down and back in 2wd and had a little over 1/ 4 of gas left. But I guess we can't always be that lucky lol.

Would I be able to make it to the end and back with a stock set up with BFG rugged terrains 265x65x17? Ill be ordering the billstein 5100s kit with 885 or eibach springs and AAL.

Should be no problem. Having 4x4 and brains will take you further than lift and fancy tires.

Ahhh thats the day of the sublime concert! Ill definitely try to make it, but will have to leave early for the concert
I have made it to the east cut and back with just a little less than a full take of gas many times, and still have enough to get back to San Benito

Edit: I guess it does depend on how bad the terrain is. ......Looking for my spare fuel tank:anonymous:
