I saw a headline that said Les was told to "keep on coaching" at La State... I guess he's safe for now? It would still be a monumentally stupid thing for the corndogs to do. It'll cost them $17M to buy out the coaching staff. The athletic department's net income last year was $17M. Besides that, WHO IN THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO GET??? La State has the 2nd best record in the SEC West against the SEC West since Miles has been there. Damn corndogs need to realize that Les isn't Nick Saban, but neither is anybody else.

That $17M is not all at once though. But still to that point isn't LSU supposedly broke? If that rumor is true how are they supposed to pay any coach that can do better than 110-32?

Yeah, I know they wont' stroke a $17m check, but it's still a shit ton of money to get rid of a guy who is in the national championship discussion every damn year.

$12.9M if fired after Jan 1st and payable over 8yrs. Boosters have agreed to spend $15M-$20M buyout him and his staff.

I've also heard his buyout is also contingent on if he takes another coaching job. Meaning LSU would only pay the difference between his salary and his guarantee. I could've been misinformed on that part though.

I'm chiming in here to let everyone know how disappointed I am in my Boise State Broncos this year...they have played sloppy and it makes me sad ( :crapstorm: for all the people who hate the Broncos lol)

Isn't it amazing how much they're willing to pay to GET RID of coaches!? I need to swindle my way into a head coaching job...

Plus who could they honestly get?
Obviously Jimbo Fisher will be in the discussion, but I personally think FSU is a way better job than LSU right now. Clearly the job security is better considering LSU is considering firing Miles to begin with. FSU can get the same caliber athletes as LSU and it's much easier to have success considering you don't have to through Alabama and 1-2 other strong SEC teams a year.

Jimbo, Dabo, and Gary Patterson are the three big targets that I've heard.

Yeah, not surprising that it steps down after Jan 1. It's $15M now, plus another few mil for his staff.

Most buyouts are contingent on future employment. If he gets a job making $5m/year elsewhere, La State is off the hook. I always said that if i were in that situation, I'd sign a back-loaded contract making $1/year for the first 8, then a bunch of money later. Make La State pay me all of the money they owed me. (I'm sure lawyer could explain why that's not realistic.)

Something else... Most other coaches will have buyouts, too. Jimbo has a $5m buyout, so if La State wants him to coach for them, they have to pay FSU $5m, and that is a single check. Not to mention Jimbo is already making more in a better situation.

No matter what, it's an expensive proposition to get rid of Les, and I virtually guarantee that the guy they get won't do any better.

I agree that it'll be hard to find someone that successful to replace him, but sometimes your program is in a rut and new blood is needed. I can see that argument being made.

If Miles goes somewhere else, he'll make $5M a yr unless he's just trying to make a point and intentionally takes less money than he could really get. Imagine him going to another SEC school and taking like $100k a year or something. That would be hilarious.

Dabo is in pretty much the same situation as Jimbo imo, plus that guy just really loved Clemson.

Or SC or even UGA. They could spend all their money on the best OC/DC and position coaches.

I'm sure a mountain of money will fix this, but IMO the biggest problem La State will have getting a new coach is the fact that they ran off a guy who had a fan-damn-tasic record and a national championship simply because he couldn't beat a guy who they have to play every single year. A guy that almost nobody else can beat either.

Who wants to come to a place where the measure of success is beating Nick Saban year in and year out? And a place where having two NC appearances and a NC ring, plus 7 10-win seasons in 11 years, AND the best winning percentage in school history (among coaches who have coached more than a single season) just isn't good enough?

That feeling sucks though...not being able to beat a team for several years...but we held on, Dabo finally figured out Spurrier...or Spurrier went all Lou Holtz...but...we got past it
