I really think the military should rethink this... There are so few who would actually get drafted and play professionally, and the ones who do could be such great ambassadors for the service academies. They should consider letting them go directly from school on the condition that they enlist in the reserves, and have their education reimbursed. (I have no idea what the cost would be... a few hundred thousand?)

Some flags and center console divider... lots of things on the wanted list.
So, they CAN get out of their enlistment. However, there are stipulations with it as Ross and I talked about.

    1. In order to get out of it, they have to have a signed contract from a team. Not practice squad, a signed contract to play on Sundays.
    2. When the contract is over (if they don't stay pro for 20 years), they must go back to the military and serve the contract they had before they went to play in the NFL
    3. They will be given the rank they left the military to play football with. So, he would be a 30 year old 2nd LT making a fraction of what he made in the NFL.

However, I am sure the Army/Navy would have something better in mind for an ex-nfl player more than spending his time on a boat or in the front lines.

Is Sumlin next? If he has an opportunity in the NFL he might be gone. Anywhere in the NFL is probably better than College Station w/o a QB.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook expects to be fully healthy when he lines up against Alabama at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic with a trip to the national championship game on the line.

Cook injured his throwing shoulder when he was driven to the turf in a win over Maryland on Nov. 14 and has been hampered by it since then. The Spartans began bowl preparation earlier this week, and Cook said the extra time off helped the healing process.

"The last two days of practice I've felt really good," he said. "[It's] the best I've felt since the injury."

The fifth-year starter and winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award for best senior quarterback sat out the second half of the Maryland game and all of a 17-14 win over Ohio State the following week. He played against Penn State and in the Big Ten championship game against Iowa, but later admitted he didn't have the arm strength or accuracy he normally does.

Idk they said on Finebaum show today that his buyout is around 20 mil, not to say A&M doesn't have the money. The question is always who out there is better than what you have now?

    Maybe Les???

One can never have too many light bars.
I'll be in Dallas the night of the Cotton Bowl. I think I may have to take a Visit to JerryWorld to see the Demon Midget Saban in Action.

A&M absolutely has the money to buy him out. He completely mishandled both qbs. Everyone has been waiting for him to announce that Spavital was fired as OC so that he could go out and get a big name like they did last year in Chavis. The problem now is that no OC wants to come to a school where you're best option is the 3rd stringer. Not only that, who would want to work for Sumlin after this cluster fuck? He had one yr to find an OC and move in the right direction. As of now, I'm not sure he gets another year. The previous admin always let coaches stay longer than they should, this group may cut him lose in the next month.

Tom Herman in Houston signed contract a few weeks ago, but the rumor has been that he's just waiting for one of the big schools in Texas to open up. They could afford him.

It will be interesting to see what is going to happen.

Sumlin sucks balls and only did well at Houston when he had Keenum. When he left they sucked. He lucked out with Johnny Funbags and shit went downhill fast after his departure, too.

Or something. I don't know all the Houston stats. But he sucks without a QB to bail him out. Malzahn style...doesn't give a shit about defense.

Let me tell you the recruiting experience is very stressful. Over the past year and half we've take several unofficial visits with many trips around the SW US. We had a recruiter come to our house last week and offer my son a full ride D1 scholarship to play football as RB/Slot. He took a few days, researched the school and what it has to offer academically and how he could fit in their program and decided to commit. Because of the complexities during football recruiting season before signing the LOI, I cannot divulge who he is or the college at this time. I will share after signing day though. I would appreciate any personal info staying mum until that time as it's not very difficult finding out who these kids are.

This was his 4th offer, but 1st D1 full ride. He's been in talks with many D1 colleges and they give a good song and dance about their interest in your child and about their program. None of this means nothing until you receive that offer and know they are dedicated to you. It's great knowing colleges are interested in your child as a D1 athlete, but the pressure for your son as well as the family is intense. What decision do we make and when do we do it? I can't tell you how much research I've done on this recruiting process. It's been crazy and at many times you feel unsure hoping you guide your son to say the right thing and make the right decision. It's his future after all.

If there's anyone else out there going through this, I'd enjoy talking about your experiences as well as ours.

One thing I can divulge is some of the D1 colleges he's been talking with. Cal Poly SLO, Idaho, Army, Navy, Dartmouth, Arizona, Hawaii, SDSU and Portland State and about 10 different DII schools.
