i just traded in my 2009 tacoma TRD off road with TRD super charger for a brand new 2014 GMC sierra with the 6.2L (similar to the stingray engine)
i have to say i couldn't be more happy with it. i was going to get a tundra but i don't want a flex fuel and can't SC it. that means i have to special order one.
but the fact is my GMC has way more features than the tundra and I've been getting 23 mpg on the highway!
blew me away! i managed 27 mpg as the speed limit slowed to 55 near my destination. i really wasn't expecting that at all.
but the power is actually better than my tacoma with the SC i can haul more as it tows 11,800 lbs and has included trailer brake actuator right on the dash!
i also have the people room i needed in the rear. (got the ext cab) and more bed space for the dirt bikes.
has a jammin bose stereo and i like the fact i can remote start the truck from my on star app!
all for about 1 grand less than the tundra Platinum.
i was going to wait for the 2015 tacoma but i decided ill just lease the GMC and then be in a position to re evaluate once my lease is up.

Sounds like you have a lot of money to burn on vehicles.

i guess i do, i actually replaced everyone in my garage in the last 12 months.
it started in april when i upgraded my 2006 Honda CRF 450X with a 2013 yamaha WR 450 because i wanted a fuel injected bike.
then i traded in the 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD for a 2013 Lexus GS 350 F sport AWD
then i sold my 2012 Corvette Z06 Centennial edition and replaced it with a 2014 Lexus IS 350 RWD F sport that i ordered and waited 4 months from japan.
and now i just replaced the 2009 tacoma with the 2014 Sierra

the truck was more of a fluke, i wasn't really looking to buy but after seeing what was around and what suited my needs best the GMC won me over. also toyota was on a lockdown due to the seat heater issue and couldn't show me anything or sell me anything. but the more i thought about it and after i had driven the GMC i decided this was what i really needed.

i did drive a tundra a week or so previously and i wasn't impressed with the power. and the MPG is quite a bit less than the GMC and considering the HP and torque i get 420 hp and 460 tq it was a no brainer.

if i should decide to keep the GMC i can get a SC from LPE that will up the power to 530 HP and 550 TQ
the truck already runs 0-60 in 7 secs and a 14.9 sec 1/4 so for a 5600 lb truck i would say that's damn impressive!

but what impress me more is the MPG i get on the highway since most of my driving is highway when we go dirt biking. i can do 400+ miles on a tank!

Flatlanders really don't understand. Living at 5,000+ feet of elevation, with lots of steep grades and passes that climb over 10,000 feet of elevation. I'm constantly wishing for more power. Particularly when pulling my little trailer, or motorcycles. Yes, the Taco can do it, and yes, "towing capacity" has little to do with how much power the engine makes. But when I'm pulling a trailer up a steep grade, gawd, I want more torques.

Ideally, I'd prefer to have the little VVT V8 that came in the 05 Tundra. I mean, Toyota put that motor in the 4-Runner, why didn't they put it into the Tacoma? Had I known, I would have worked a SuperCharger into deal when I purchased my truck originally. *sigh*

But if we're dreaming here, I hope Toyota gives us a small V8 option for the next gen Taco, more than any other feature.

that's only because it has a 36 gallon tank! does the ecoboost get 23+ mpg highway? I know it has has less TQ and HP than the 6.2l chevy as a matter of fact NOT 1 of fords engines, not even the 6.2l has 420 hp and 460 tq
and only the ecoboost comes close to MPG and power. its rated for 22 mpg highway.
my 6.2 is rated for 20 mpg but I can tell you from experience 20 mpg is EASY to get, I can get 23 driving at 80 mph if I drive 75 I can get in the mid 20's
even their 6.2l 4x4 truck is rated tow capacity at 11,200 lbs

I agree, and here in Colorado the SC equipped Tacoma felt like you would expect a truck of its size to perform at sea level without a SC great for towing. I don't tow much but I like the performance the SC gives. but I like the sound of the V8 better and the fact I didn't need to do anything to it to get that power.

That DIC (driver information center) on GM vehicles is pretty flawed... Instant MPG and Average MPG are typically pretty far off.

I had an 07 NNBS Silverado with 6.0 (Vortec Max) that had amazing fuel economy numbers on the DIC, but once I did the math after reading how inaccurate it was, it was far less than the average displayed.

We were driving on the coast of Oregon this past summer and I was floored by how much more power the Taco had. I could pass cars on a whim, and I was towing two full-size motorcycles at the time as well.

I have confirmed the accuracy at the pump as well. it was within .2 mpg of the displayed average.
the 2014 was totally redesigned interior and exterior and drivetrain. just looking at a visual on the gas gauge I used a 1/4 tank on my trip this weekend to commerce city with 2 stops in castle rock on the way up and the way back. the total mileage should have been about 170 miles and according to the gallons in the tank (the onstar app shows fuel in gallons remaining) I used 7 gallons and that is an average of 24 mpg.
considering the trip was about 110 miles highway and the rest city I would still say that is damn respectable MPG for a full sized truck!

Interesting. Waiting for the county to offer tax incentives so suppliers can construct facilities makes it sound like it's at least another year away.

I call bs on your mileage! You can't get 27 mpg in a full size GMC truck unless you are going down hill the whole time.

You are not averaging 27 mpg. I can see it happeing when your slowing down and your display telling you this but no way you can average 27. You lost all crediablity thinking your averaging 27 mpg a tank lol.

I'm with you. I dont want to buy a 16MPG truck only to have them release a 22MPG truck the next year and I lose my car's value because no one wants to buy a used gas guzzler anymore haha! When can we expect to see reliable figures on the new model? End of year?

UK calculate/rate/test MPG much differently than the U.S.
