I thought he was talking about this sunday for some reason. I'm actually free on the 2nd I might just have to go.depending on weather. If we don't get fresh snow the days before it won't be good conditions. If the weather is clear I will be fishing.

I'm thinking MET. I've been up to Uncle Toms/Wentworth Springs in the summer, but never winter. Pollock Pines should get 12"+ in the next two days. And that's at the bottom of the trail. Sounds fun :D (for the record never done MET either :p)

I have no idea, but the website http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/eldorado/home/?cid=fsbdev7_019037 says that Forest Route 5 (Mormon Emigrant Trail/ Iron Mountain road) is closed for the season in the Amador and Placerville Ranger Districts.
Does that mean gates or just unmaintained? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

There is a point where it turns into snowmobile only (technically ) but I believe that's marked at a junction

MET is a paved forest road open from Sly Park Rd (in Pollock Pines) to Hwy 88 most of the year. During the winter, they close a gate at the Hwy 88 end. At the top between Silver Fork Rd and the gate, it's for things like snowmobiles. No vehicles allowed. From the bottom up to this point (about 20 miles of road) it's open for all recreational vehicles including 4wd vehicles. It is an unplowed road.
