I am looking to sell my 06' TRD Off Road and get an SR5 4x4, probably a 16' or 17' if no 16's left. What can I expect off MSRP on a 4 door short bed V6 SR5?

Second question, should I go with a 2015? Sometimes I think that gen is bullet proof, 300K just a u-joint, rear axle seal and coil pack - running like a champ...

Just curious as to any input. I assume others have had the same thoughts/questions.

Post this in 3rd gen forum, people will say buy a 3rd gen. Post it in 2nd gen forum people will say buy a 2nd gen. Drive both and see what you like.

What he really should do is post this in the 1st-Gen forum, for unbiased opinions.

I was offered $27,000 for my 2015 SR5 V6 4x4 Access Cab with 10,400 miles on her. I'm looking at a 2017 SR5 V6 Double Cab 4x4. They took nothing off the MSRP.Another dealer took $2027 off MSRP,same truck.I have to dive out there yet to get a trade in value. I liked everything better on the 2017 vs my 2015,except the engine/transmission. Maybe I just have to get used to it. I took the truck on a 20 minute test drive. It was

Tried to post in other forums, but wouldn't let me since I don't have 50 posts... Seems silly, I think I have betwern 10-20.

I think I like the 4.0 better than the new smaller Atkinson cycle and the exterior. I like the interior of the Gen 3 a lot better. My man concern with the Gen 3 is the unknown of the reliability.

So is $2,000 off sticker reasonable on a new SR5 4x4?

    2Airheads I would probably buy your 15' for $27k.

I'm not sure I want to sell mine. I test drove the 2017.Same truck SR5 4x4 double Cab.I liked everything better about the 2017 except the motor/transmission. I probably could get used to it though. The only reason I'm looking is to go from Access to Double Cab.I've had mine for a little over year now, never had an issue with it. Love the look of the 3RD Gen in and out. If I could trade mine in for the difference of $2-$3 Grand I would do it, otherwise I'll live with the Access Cab. I'm not the one sitting in the back anyway.

The 3rd gen has issues that the 2015 does not.

I just purchased a 2017, and I would go back to my 2009 in a heartbeat if I could. If you tow a trailer of any size (even 600lbs) you have to have the transmission in S4 with ECT, because the top two gears cannot hold the power band correctly. This results in extremely shitty MPG for even the smallest of trailer towing on the highway.

The software for the transmission is still going through refinement. Toyota's desire to get better gas mileage by moving to 6 gears with a smaller engine (regardless of spec comparison to 2nd gen) has resulted in a very weak offering for highway driving. The truck loves to shift like crazy because of the two top gears have NO torque. The smallest of inclines causes downshifts. Its pretty sad they released such a piece of crap...If you just do city, or country road driving your probably ok with a 2017..

I'd say 2014. I've heard of some minor modification is necessary with some lifts to work on the 2015's. (Which obviously only matters if you plan on lifting it.) Either way, the 2nd gen is tried and true, and you know you're going to get a really reliable truck that won't have tons of small issues like SOME (not all) 3rd gen owners complain of. I've never driven a 3rd gen, and even though I like the design, I'd personally wait until some of the more "common" issues are sorted out.

My guess is the manual wont suffer as much from the up/downshift issue since you are in control. However, its likely 5th, and 6th will not have torque, just like the automatic. Thus you will likely get pretty poor gas mileage while towing or with roads where 5th/6th cannot hold the power.

I was in this same dilemma before I decided not to buy. If the deal was good enough I was getting the 2015 because all my parts including the towing mirror and other stuff would fit and the truck is not much different. My brother has one and its nice but I would prefer the 4l for towing

Wait, maybe I'm confused...the 4l is the 4-cylinder isn't it? How is that better for towing?

I love my 2017 TRD OR 4x4 6 speed MT! That being said I had a 2010 TRD OR 5 speed Auto... if I didn't sell it back then due to some financial complications I would have kept that truck until the very end... that truck was amazing. Just my honest opinion.
