I just got my DMV renewal today, the lovely state of California wants $407 for the pleasure of driving my 5 year old vehicle on their trashed, garbage filled streets.

Just out of curiosity, what are other 2015 owners paying for yearly registration in other states? I’ve been trying to GTFO of this godforsaken state, would be helpful to know what other states also rob their citizens.

Here in Utah, paid less than $200 on mine this year. I'm not sure how yours is literally double mine. I also have a vanity plate.

Just did mine last month $197 in Montana. Here counties have an option to tax based on value. My county takes as much as they are allowed by the state. A new Tacoma would be around $400-425. It slides over the first 4 years, drops significantly at 5, same story to 10. At 11 you can do a permanent registration.

No matter where you live the state gets their money out of you one way or another. In most states you end up at about a 10-12% effective tax rate once everything is said and done. They all do it a little differently but they all get their money.

CA income tax alone is 10%+. Throw in 9% sales tax plus all the other garbage and they get a quarter of your money. Easy.

Not a new law. Certainly you paid more than that last year. And the year before. And the year before.

Went from 498 bucks a year in Hawai’i for my 16’ Tacoma and 512 a year for my 19’ 4runner. Moved to Oregon I pay 112 for two years for my 4runner and my Tacoma has a lifetime veterans exemption plate so it’s free for life

~$100-150 every 2 years here in AK. I don't particularly remember its that insignificant. We also don't have a state income or sales tax.

At the same time we're hurting this year with oil/gas and tourism down due to the pandemic.
