65 in Texas. I can see why people are fleeing in flocks from California.

But we haven’t begun to discuss increasing rent and home prices and the fires and the crime rates and the gas prices

I miss CA, would move back in a heart beat if I had a chance. Had a blast in my years there. Great neighbors, great surf, good food, perfect weather, spend time outside almost every day of the year, cool towns to visit, great galleries, museums.:playball:

I'm an avid golfer so they'd be cool. I also like the loon critical habitat plate, it's a toss up right now.

My buddy has the loon one, it’s great! His Uncle Les Kouba did the art on the Kouba Moose plate, not sure why he didn’t get that one.

That's cool, yeah I'd get those if a family member did it. I'd really like the state park plates but the art on them looks like an elementary kid won a contest. Which if true, is cute. But the plate is still ugly.

I don’t disagree at all there, lol. However. Now I don’t have to put stickers on so there’s that.DA178640-0DAD-48C9-B756-89F18A137A20.jpg

They look good on your truck, that's all that matters! Otherwise it's $30 a year I think for the sticker. I believe that's what I paid for mine.

My grandpa just moved out here from Davenport, IA to La Jolla, CA and he is amazed with CA and how it has everything. Beaches... check. Mountains... check. Deserts... check. Flatlands... check. It really does have a lot to offer but the concept of 'is it all worth it' is getting closer and closer to "no". The weather... ehhh I would argue its not THAT great. Summers here are dreadfully hot, we have consistent fire problems, etc. Here is San Diego, downtown they have to powerwash sidewalks with bleach because of homeless hepetitus issues (at least a couple times from memory). In San Fran they have the 'poop patrol' and last time I visited my wife and I saw numerous needles throughout the city. Add on all this talk of the state government sucking it's middle class dry and everything is expensive here.

This is pretty much it. Stop complaining or move to AL, MS.... If you selected a career that mostly limits you to CA and then you complain about CA taxes, well, then I guess you didn't think ahead. Even $200 is ridiculous to pay for yearly registration IMO. But if it was $700, that's still less than $2 a day. And we all spend more than that daily on beer, coffee.... So focusing on vehicle registration fees might be a fun forum topic, and it is, but it's otherwise useless for where to choose to live as that might be 1% of your tax load.

I would love to retire to CA but I couldn't afford the taxes and housing costs. Like someone else said, it has the mountains, beach, desert... If you love the outdoors, and I do, you can always find something every day of the year. As far as drugs, homeless, needles on the street, that's in every major city.

I have a friend that moved from CA to CO in ~2008. He said registration for his Tacoma was actually cheaper in CA than CO which shocked me. Of course his income tax was significantly less in CO than CA so he came out well ahead.

I'm in TN and it varies by county, but mine is something stupid like $28 (the lowest possible). It doesn't matter on the vehicle's value, it's all the same. Other counties are higher, but AFAIK, it's a fixed fee and not by vehicle value.
