2015 Rostra Back-up Camera...why do I want to rip out existing factory wiring?

Greetings: I have just purchased the Rostra 250-8412 back-up camera on ebay for my 2015 V6 base 4x4 Double Cab Tacoma. With expectation mounting, I opened up the tailgate as per the instructions; but, the factory wiring for the camera goes all the way to the dummy housing - GOOD. What the kit requires is for me to rip that all out and run an extension connector to under the deck - BAD. If the supplied extension is used this is mandatory as the plug under the deck is different than the one that goes onto the dummy housing. I really do not want to pull out the factory wiring to make the connection as it is far better attached than anything I will rig up.

Does anyone know where I could source a short wiring harness that would connect the back-up camera that has a Bendix style plug on it, direct to the factory wiring/ plug at the dummy housing?

I have also asked the Rostra and the ebay supplier but would be happy with a quick answer.

    Thanks

I will be interested to hear what they say. I just used what they sent me. I zip tied the new harness into place and am not worried about how secure it is, but it would have been nice if one could use the original harness instead of reinventing things.

I will say I am pleased with the image quality of the camera. Would have been real nice though if Toyota hadn't wanted somewhere north of $650 for a $50 or less camera module.

Thanks, I priced an OEM camera through the local Toyota dealer in BC and it was quoted at $410 canadian...I saved about $200 ordering on ebay from the US...was it worth it?

I have had that Rostra installed now for about 3 months and am very pleased with it. Routing the new harness was easy.. Just had to zip tie a bit of excess under the bed. As you say though, a connector with the proper plug adapter would make it a 5 minute or less job.

I am very curious to find out if Rostra explains why they couldn't just use the proper connector for the factory harness though.
