So I am getting back into the game a bit. This is the starting setup as I already had a lot of the gear. So it begins...

    The beginning:

    Head unit:
    Pioneer double din w/ navigation
    Steering wheel control module

    Front doors:
    JL Audio C5 components

    Back doors:
    JL Audio C3 Components

    Subs:
2 - JL Audio 13W3v3-4 13.5” subwoofers in a custom sealed enclosure placed where the smaller back seat behind the driver seat used to be.

    Amp:
    JL Audio 900.5HD

0 gauge running to a distribution block.

    Future:
I intend to add a high power alternator, secondary battery, and cap soon.
I'm planning to build out the door panels and double up the front drivers.
Also plans to add a second amp and possibly a third.

I will update with pictures and more details tomorrow or Tuesday.

Why a capacitor? New high output alternator + an additional batteries will suffice. Capacitors don't really help anything unless your electrical is going to fluctuate a lot and if that's the case you should get that built up before you install a power hungry system. (Big three upgrade, new alt, more batteries etc.)

I would avoid a capacitor...being big into audio back in the day, they can do more harm than good.

With your current setup, your stock electrical can handle everything just fine. That amp pulls what about 900w if you have 100w x4 for your speakers + the 500w rms for the subs? If you go above 1000-1200w RMS, then I would look into doing some electrical upgrades.

Seems like a sweet build though, post up some pics!

I agree about the capacitors. Currently I don't think I will need to upgrade anything either. The first upgrade will be the big three as mentioned.

However this system could end up well above 1500 maybe 2000 plus when it's all said and done.

I was able to pull 144 decibels in a 88 standard cab Toyota truck. And High 150s in a bronco. I'm sure when this is all said and done it will be one of the hardest hitting tacos around.

    Cheers

Just test ran the 13w3s. Yeahhhh buddy.
    The Knockin Taco is born.

Still thinking a mono block for the subs is going to be in the works but it is not lacking now.

So the 13w3s are in and the sound is stupid good. I am impressed by the JLs. The. 900/5 hd is pushing them at 2 ohms. It's crisp clean bass.

Still thinking using a JL 1000 monoblock for the subs is a good possibility. Use the 5th channel of the 900/5 to power some mid driver six or eight inchers.

The bedliner is not fully cured in a few places we touched up and will even out but here is some pics leading up to the finished install.

you won't need an extra alt or cap for that setup
Just make sure you have a big 3 done and a good AGM battery especially if you have the tow package

I was thinking of doubling mid driver's and amps but it's got a perfect balance of sound quality now. Thanks for the insight. Turns out the previous owner did at least 2 of the big three. No problems on power at all.

I might actually be done on this system. It slams but sounds so good. I had a customer today in his late sixties sit in there while we listen to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd and he had to close his eyes and enjoy. He said it was by far the best music listening experience he had ever had which I take very seriously and was so awesome to see.

Well I am anxious to see your build. In a taco? If you're ever in Portland let me know I'll buy you a beer.

I am realizing Toyota has come a long way since my last two 88 trucks.

I want go big but man to sound is so good right now.

    Cheers!

ill fire you some vids on what our subs are doing currently in demo builds, not peak burps
One guy with 2 subs, a 10k amp is around 158 @ 28hz burp and music isn't far off in the freq range
