Hey all, been poking around a bit online and can't seem to find an answer to a likely stupid question. I have a 2015 Sport which I bought used earlier this year. It has the standard complement of dash-mounted on/off switches for fog lights, the bed outlet, VSC off, and RSCA off. It also has one that doesn't appear to be standard equipment (outlined in red). I can't figure out what purpose it serves. Anyone have an idea?

I bet it’s been added by a previous owner to control some aftermarket lights.. see if there’s any wiring going to it and then follow the wires

There are some cheap-o LED bars that were added on by the previous owner, but this switch doesn't do anything to enable/disable them.

usually that symbol is for fog lights, but that one was definitely added by the previous owner. Check around for any extra lights.

It doesn't control any of the aftermarket lights installed, as far as I can tell. The symbol looks like a high beam kill switch (if that's a thing), but doesn't function that way.

Is there another switch for those lights or is it likely that this is supposed to turn them on but there is some sort of electrical fault in the system?

    1. Look at your battery, do you see any “different” looking wires going to it?
    2. Open the fuse box under the hood, do you see any “out of place” looking wires?
    3. To really figure it out, you need to see where the wires are going from the switch.
IIRC, You can pop out that little cubby compartment that is directly under the switches, you should then be able to see where the wires are going. Or just look under the under the dash and see what’s going on under there.

I’m betting they had something to do with the aftermarket lights.

It’s just a fog light switch. How it’s wired in your truck is a mystery. Trace wiring and find out.

It’s similiar, but not quite the same as a FJ cruiser fog light switch. Simebody put it in there upside down and wired it to something.

One of the LED light strips is installed under the tailgate and acts as an auxiliary brake/backup light. This strip functions all the time, regardless of switch position.

There are 2 more LED light strips installed under the rocker panel beneath the front driver and passenger doors. No idea what these lights are for, since I haven't managed to turn them on. Maybe auxiliary turn signals?

Yeah, looks like this is my only option. Pray for me, electronic anything is not my forte.

It's easy. From the switch, follow each wire.
Make a drawing along the way so you don't confuse yourself later.

That looks very much like an OEM switch. The window under the pictogram makes me think otherwise though.

My truck came with some oddities installed. Aside from the aftermarket LED light strips and this switch, it has 3rd gen Sport wheels. The previous owner worked at a dealership, so I assume he snapped up and installed some vehicle take-off parts.

Could be. Does that switch illuminate with the dash? Does it react to dimming?

It has backlighting and illuminates when pushed, but I haven't checked to see if it's connected to the dimmer. I'll check in a few hours.

It’s OEM. I had the same switch on my Tacoma when I installed fog lights. IIRC, it’s from one of the SUVs, Tacoma wasn’t illuminated but a Rav/T4R/Sequoia or something was illuminated.

based on this description, it sounds like those rocker panel lights are there as rock lights/underglow. if you can't figure out how to turn them on, my first guess would be that the switch is wired to those but somewhere along the connection it's failing to activate them.

But like said above, you're gonna need to trace the wires to know for sure what it's for. It's possible that there was more lighting on the truck but got removed before they sold it, and it's just a switch leading to nothing now.

That's my current suspicion. There was a grille guard mounted, which would provide real estate for mounting aux headlights or something similar.

As others have stated, the only way to know is to nut up and chase the wires down. I'm assuming I have to yank the switch itself out, but don't really know what else will be required. Removing the dash trim?

Speaking of extra buttons... anyone know what this is? I thought it was the TRAC on/off rocker switch (since my Sport doesn't have A-TRAC), but now I'm not sure. After cycling through H2, H4, and L4, I can't discern what function it serves.
