You can probably still get a good trade in price from a dealer. No codes means no problem…

Only for a dealer trade in, not to another person unless they know lol.

First yhe Rangers trans problems now the Taco :annoyed:

My Taco had trans issues around 180k and it turned out to be a torque converter but not the same symptoms. When lightly pushing on the pedal to accelerate it'd vibrate like it was going over rumble strips.

Had that same rumble strip thing with my F 1 Fitty.

I'm guessing it's a valve or torque converter issue of some sort.

Im no expert trans guy but my only band aid I can suggest is $8 Shudder Fixx. You add it to the trans and its supposed to help it go away but not fix the underlying issue.

My uncles clunker CRV had a slipping trans. Put some of it in and poof! It was completely gone and that was about 3+ weeks ago and haven't heard any complaints from him since.

Basically lol idk about a good trade in since it's an sr5 so low trim but worth a shot ya know.
Dude tell me about it... This truck hasn't been "off-road" at all it's just been my daily and bike towing thing like why? What did I do lol

Speaking of the ranger my dad was trying to tell me to get another like man I honestly don't trust it... It failed on me once why would I go back?

Mine has no shudder or shake so idk what's causing the issue it's really odd on how the truck feels.

Drain it, drop the pan, check the filter. If it's clogged up with metal, you got your answer. If it's clean and clear, reseal the pan, refill the proper amount and see if it improves.

Im going to bet when you drain the pan you are a quart or more low.

I wouldnt drive it much at all till at a MINIMUM quickly check fluid level. Without doing anything as far as drain/fill etc. put it in temp check mode on level ground let idle till it tells you then pull the check plug while running, if nothing comes out you are obviously low on fluid. If this is the case you are PROBABLY ok.

Do it proper. 12 quarts of Toyota WS fluid (of maxlife multi vehicle atf that meets Toyota WS spec), trans pan gasket, wix or toyota trans filter. Drain pan, and measure what was in the pan - this will get you an idea of how low the trans was. Then proceed to clean magnets/pan and swap filter. Fill pan with 4 quarts, then proceed to "push out" 2 quarts at a time via cooler lines, do this 3x so you now have 10 quarts of fresh, do one final one of 1 quart for a full 11qt fluid replacement. Pour half of the 12th quart in. Let truck cool completely.

Put in temp check mode and when proper pull check plug, it should drain ~ half a quart. (its SOOOO much easier to slightly overfill and do the final level check once vs underfilling, having to fill more, wait for everything to cool and do the whole process again).

This part is interesting to me, definitely seems like it could be the fluid being low and moving around enough to where the transmission can't get it where it needs it to be.

just a couple of things tbh
id like to point this out with these autos there is a symptom of this with low fluid which when i changed my oil i noticed my bell housing was a bit wet but thought nothing of it. according to a buddy of mine who has seen it happen if the bell housing is leaking fluid then a bushing that connects to (honestly i dont remember lol) i think he said torque converter will weld it self to a bushing and start leaking fluid and ruin the trans. i noticed mine was a bit wet but didnt think anything of it..

im going to have to take a look at the truck again and see... this only started happing 2 months ago so if the trucks fluid was low why is it just now doing stuff? im not discrediting anyone here but would like to know.. since ive had the truck i havent touched the trans and it just started doing this two months ago so it being a fluid issue unless its leaking out because of another issue doesnt seem to likely.

on the chevy side of things this also can mean something else. my buddy is getting his trans rebuilt because of torque converter failure and it happens on hills.

not saying its the same thing just interesting that everyone in here keeps saying check fluids when even after talking to a shop it doesnt sound like its a fluid issue.

I’m surprised you haven’t already checked it by now. It only takes 15 min, bring it to temp. and pull the over flow plug. Look for the trickle . Ya gotta start there any way.

Get yer gf to check it while you read her the directions from post 2. You gotta take care of these issues instead of running around with the gf.

Not much to add as you need to determine current level as others have stated. Personally I would not do the flush / oil change until you can get some idea's of what may be going wrong. Some other questions that may be of help, and would be good to confirm after an oil change or fluid adjustment:

1: Have a scan gauge or app reading ATF temp available? Curious to general running temp, and also peak when climbing some of these hills.
2: You mentioned manual mode working for the downshift, does this resolve all issues if you leave it in / or use manual mode exclusively (up and down shifts?)
3: 102,000 miles I think was in first post (will check and edit here - I was off by 4k ), any work done by yourself or previous owner? Cooler added etc?

I do have a scan gauge ya but not a fancy one so unsure what it will tell me.

Manual mode works sometimes... It use to work but now the truck will ignore it and stay locked into a gear until it decides when it wants to leave that gear even with no throttle applied it won't do anything.

No work done to the power train it's factory with a trans cooler on my truck with the options they got with it. Only mods done to the truck are the ones listed I did.

I was bored and curious if the info I gave would be useful and it seems like it “could” be.

A faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor can indirectly cause transmission problems. The MAF sensor measures the amount of air entering the engine, which is crucial for the engine control unit (ECU) to optimize fuel injection and ignition timing. If the MAF sensor is malfunctioning, it can lead to poor engine performance, such as:

    1. Rough Idling: This can affect how the transmission engages and shifts.
    2. Stalling: If the engine stalls, it can cause issues with the transmission, especially in automatic vehicles.
    3. Poor Acceleration: This might lead to erratic shifting or hesitation in the transmission.
In summary, while the MAF sensor itself doesn't control the transmission, its poor performance can lead to symptoms that affect how the transmission operates.
