When I was IFS the rear locker was in at every ledge or obstacle but the front one only went in when I knew I would need it or I couldn't make it. Now it was like oh the front locker isn't on so lets try it again with it on and then 3 miles down trail "oh shit the front locker is still one!"

    Agreed.

Driving on the slick rock causes a lot of front-rear binding in 4wd. We have all heard the chirping tires. Before getting to the point of chirping, there is stress on your CVs, driveshafts, t-case, control arms, steering etc.

The nice thing about dual cases is that you can run in 2wd low range. Which is what I try to do a lot of the time. If there is a an obstacle of nearly any sort, I square up to it and flick it in 4wd and turn on front + rear lockers.

No point in having tires spin and leave more rubber. Or risk sliding sideways and smashing a drive shaft. Landing a spinning tire or having it suddenly get grip is what does ring and pinions in. Shock loads.

If you are trying to take harder lines, and/or avoiding the "Easy button" then you are on the wrong trail. Go find something more challenging. If a locker is cheating, then so is 4wd, go run hells in a Crown Vic for a true challenge.

I go to MOAB for the challenge I use the lockers and winch so I can make the trail. I use the crown vic when I get bored and need a side obstacle .

Full length Rocky Mountain Rack with 40" lightbar, Alternating strobe rear dust lights. I used a warm weekend in March 2022 to finally install my brand new from old stock 2000 4Runner driver's seat. $800 directly from the factory in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
In a sense I did, I shaved them all very close to the point of removing the tops of the welts along with the surrounding hair. Then I soaped them up again, rinsed & patted them dry. Finally I sterilized every bite with a couple of rubdowns using 92% isopropyl alcohol. Absolutely. Searing. Pain. for about 3-4 minutes. BUT after the alcohol treatment, the itch is gone. 3 days now & they are healing nicely. I think between removing the uppermost part of the welt where the bite occurred & a dousing with alcohol, removed &/or broke down the allergen(s) left behind by the gnats.

I actually met the guy from the youtube video in the checkout line at the Walker General Store in Moab.

only one problem with that treatment by the time I got home I had been scratching so hard I had scabs every where. I felt like a crack head that needed a fix.

Bugs at camp weren't that bad at camp but the first day I put shorts on we end up stopping to help Phil get through the tank trap in the trees where all the bugs where. So yeah had I run around in Indiana Jones clothing like you i would have been safe. I know BFE is a blast but i may just camp at canyon last next year because i drove around that much anyways.

Pour the alcohol in when you open the scabs up. No need to shave and all that what not.

The alcohol trick works on mosquito and fire ant bites as well since I get some allergic reaction to all of the above.

I see a more direct approach next time is needed. I see it going like this a little alcohol for me, a little for the bug bites, a little more for me, a little for the bug bites, a little for me, a little for me, a little for me..... wait what was i doing again.

Apparently i didn't get away as clean as i thought. Add another set of rear gears to the carnage list.

    Sorry not sorry :p

I noticed a slight noise under acceleration after getting back to denver but wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Thought it was just the link bushings that were effed (which they were).

It started this on the drive home tonight.
