This may be a silly question and if it is I apologize. I did search around on the forum a bit to see if this had been asked somewhere else but I wasn’t entirely satisfied with my results so I thought I’d make my first thread and ask a question. I own a 2015 Black DCSB PreRunner Non JBL truck. I’m looking to install a 8inch Joying plug and play kit and I’m trying to get my facts/understanding of everything in order before I make the purchase. I understand there are ways to wire in the OEM backup camera by splicing/running wires from the glovebox and splicing into the OEM harness. But I noticed ebay has some kits that supposedly convert from the 24 pin adapter in the back of the stock radio to an RCA output like the Joying unit uses for the radio. Has anyone used these/know if those kits work? I’m trying to avoid cutting/splicing wiring if I absolutely have to as I don’t like doing that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why not go with a Dasiata head unit, everything is plug and play. If yu have factory backup cam yu will have to get the harness which includes the transformer which breakdown 12 volt to 6 volts which is the voltage for factory backup cam

I’ll look into the Dasaita units more. But I was more set on the Joying unit given the price point of it. But upon quick inspection I don’t see a unit available for my truck on their website.

There is a thread on here that shows how to "hack" the factory signal with an RCA cable

I haven't found a thread on here yet regarding that, but I did find videos on YouTube detailing it. It appears to involve cutting off a 24pin connecter that goes into the back of the stock radio. I'm not really interested in cutting stuff. I would prefer to leave things as factory as possible in the event I need to undo everything (for whatever reason). With that being said, I was on eBay last night looking around and I found a kit that appears to go from the 24 pin connector to an RCA jack and comes with a 12v to 6v step-down. My question was has anyone used those and if they have worked alright in the Joying unit. I haven't seen anyone else attempt to use them.

Then be the man that does it. There are 24-pin jumper sets to be had so use one of those to avoid cutting your factory harness.

I figured I would anyway, I'm fine with trying it out. Was just curious to see if anyone else had taken a stab at it and had 2 cents to share. Thanks.

I do a lot of searching here and elsewhere for mods I’d like to do but in the end it comes down to how much I want to do something. Often as not I’ll end up doing some part a little different anyway and since I do remodel work “messing with factory” isn’t a hang up for me. Not that I’m averse to using jumper kits if available. I bought my truck used and it came with poorly done wiring mods already so it wasn’t a virgin in that regard anyway. Being a base model to boot it had plenty of room for improvement too. Good luck with your search but don’t let it stop you.

The one I was looking at was for an 09 with the rear view mirror screen

Do you (or anyone else) know which 24-pin connector model this is? I might be willing to take a crack at it but no idea how to find the appropriate connector piece. I just spliced mine on a '15 TRD OR Pioneer upgrade and wish I could have done it without cutting.

Sorry I should be more clear. I'm wondering if someone knows which connector part number for the stock backup camera harness so I can investigate building a pigtail. Not concerned about the Daisaita head unit itself.

Excellent timing for me, so I'm subbing in. I'm just about to attempt the same with my 2011... considered running a new camera from Camera Source (https://camerasource.com/automotive...a-backup-camera-for-aftermarket-monitors.html) but it's so pricey that I thought I'd at least try the stock camera first.

Hey thanks for the post! Have you attempted this before? It appears you need to purchase the harness separately and the harness that needs to be purchased separately looks confusing to me as there is a bunch more than is necessary.

Camera source is where I got my backup camera but the member I got my anytime F/R harness from no longer sells them. I have seen what look to be the harnesses online but you would have to compare them to yours to verify. What I did do was read and study everything I could find on the topic until I understood every wire in it and what it did rather than doing it “because the directions said so”. It was during that process that I saw pics of the connectors.

I have a Dasiata head unit which have both front and backup cam inputs.
