Has anyone here looked at their Tacoma A/C drain? I checked mine today while I was under the truck and I noticed that the hose is placed above the chassis and to some wiring. So eventually all condensation from the A/C drains on the wiring and chassis. I can see that this is going to be a problem soon. So, my instinct told me to fix this problem... sooooo, I connected a hose and re-routed the drain lower, away from any part of the truck...
Is it just me who is bothered about the placement of the hose or anyone else here sees this as a problem waiting to happen...

Yes, it can be a problem. That's where many frames rot.

Clean water isn't hard on a vehicle. Salt, dirt and mud mixed with water is.

say that to the surface rust that has formed on a small part of my frame where the AC drains onto...

do yourself a favor OP get a tube and extend the line down below the frame.

x2. A guy I know owns a welding shop. He told me they often repair frames on the tacoma right where the ac drain dumps water on it.

Surface rust occurs on all vehicles with parts that are not treated with rust proofing.

thats cool and all but the rest of the frame is spotless so why not take the time, and free parts laying around the house to fix the problem.

Hell you could take an old garden hose and slip it over the drip tube that comes out of the firewall and zip tie it in place.

I just extended mine this afternoon. Got a 3/8 90 degree hose connector and a few feet of 3/8 id hose and extended it down behind frame crossmember. Nice catch as I never notice this on mine till I read this

If rust results from where the A/C drain hose drains, Toyota is going to fix. I've had TSB/ Warranty issues with honda, lexus and subaru. Lexus aka toyota was the easiest to deal with. If you're in California you can make a complaint to the Bureau of Automotive Repair, whenever you have a issue with a Dealer/bodyshop/mechanic! Any legitimate shop will get on their knees when a complaint has been made thru the Bureau of Automotive Repair!

then you need a different dealer. I just dont want the frame to start rusting and deal with a crappy looking frame till it finally rusts thru is all I am trying to prevent. My dealer doesnt look at what I did as modified and it doesnt void my warranty

My 96 did the same thing for 17 yrs, never had anything more than surface rust, but I live in a very dry area.

technically the dealer has to prove what ever modification done to a vehicle caused the reason for you to bring it in for warranty work.

I gave up on the dealership after the first 5k mi oil change and the driveline vibration TSB fiasco that i went through.

Did this mod today. Thought y'all might like some pics.
Heres where the drain hose is before I did anything. Taken from the wheel well. Before_zps0b4aafda_d36cd9940f53bf4e76b58b8c05dd986e10935400.jpg

I got 3/8" tube and fitting.
    Supplys_zps1d62a4f2_a2052f9f4737deb4671c4647cf5633303ad98991.jpg

The A/C hose is not 3/8" I found so I had to zip tie the fitting in. No biggy

I chose to go down the frame on the inside.
    Out2_zps274ac8b9_e0fc3552893c170ed442495b9fa04e45c0acb01f.jpg

And it hangs down a little.

    Works really well!

This looks a little close to the exhaust pipe. Any chance the hose might collapse from the heat and back up the draining?

I went in that direction as well and thought the same. Go down through a hole atop the crossmember ... snake it towards the centerline and out one of the bottom hole extending perhaps 1".
