I’ve been searching and searching, but I haven’t found the right thread yet. I’m looking to remove my mirror covers on my 2015 Tacoma to paint them.

I have seen that you need to pop the mirrors out, but I have power mirrors and every time I try to pop them out they feel like they’re about to snap.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

You don't need to pull the mirror glass out. Push in the mirror glass close to the door to create a gap between the mirror and outer edge. Look in the gap and you should see little tabs where the mirror cover snaps into the body of the complete mirror assembly. I used a plastic trim tool to release a couple of these and this will create a gap between the main body of the mirror and the mirror cover. just work the tool around this gap to release the rest of the tabs. If you are painting the cover to match your truck its better to just go to the toyota dealer and order them in your trucks color. They are cheap at around $60 each at least in the US and these would be the ones with the blinker cut outs. The ones without cutouts are even cheaper at least most of the dealers on line I have seen. Up here in Canada we get hosed on our parts from the dealer but I was quoted over $200 to get both covers color matched to the truck.

Thanks for the advice!! I found the tabs and they popped right out. Took a little persuasion, but the trim tool worked like a charm.

I have a super white truck, so I’m painting the mirrors black to match some of the other trim I’ve had done. I’ll post pics when it’s all done.

What trim tools did you use?
