Reg cab Taco's are sort of expensive. That's probably why sales are down. A new reg cab 4 cyl 4x2 with tax, license, etc...will probably run you $20k out the door. My 2006 DCLB was $26.5 OTD. For an extra $6500 I got a much more useful truck for my needs. 6 cylinders instead of 4, seating for 5 instead of 3, better towing capacity, etc... Of course it's all about the needs of a particular owner. Making a reg cab Taco with a 7' or 8' bed might sell too and they could probably make it work on the DCLB frame. As the DCLB is already about 17.5 feet long a 7'-8' bed is not really feasible. Even if Toyota eliminates the reg cab for 2015, it doesn't mean that they can't bring it back later.

I see the $6500 as the difference of the added options, access cab, TRD, DC etc. having a 2nd vehicle sort of let me forgo an access cab I almost bought.

    On a different note...
While I think we all agree the RC sells the least, I feel Toyota, like all corporations, only see the opportunity to LIMIT your choices towards higher options and bigger profits. Upsell, upsell, drop the lowest selling .... UPSELL. If it made them $1000 more per truck, they would guide you to a 6 door Tacoma on a 160" wheelbase as if its the newest, best, goad you to "step up to the plate" in so many soft ways that people sometimes buy into. Reg cab sales wouldn't be so low if Toyota offered TRD and the 4L as options. What will be the next profit limiter they remove? 5' bed? SR5? 4 color options to 2?

Meanwhile overseas, reg cab sales are still decent and they get diesels. Learn your place America, you are a dollar farm and are holding money back that belongs to corporates.

Back in the early 90's I know people who bought reg cab Toyota trucks for $6k. Yes the 2014 reg cab probably has more luxuries than a 1993, but what are you actually getting for the price difference? The trucks in question (a 91 and a 93) are both still running. They are both 5 speeds and both have AC. The new Tacoma reg cab is 3x as much. For about the same price you can get a reg cab F150 or Ram. Sometimes you'll see a Dodge or Ford DC for around $20k on sale. If the new Taco reg cab was near $12k it would sell a lot better as it would be in the ballpark price of other small trucks.

Meh, no loss. Reg cabs aren't nearly as useful as the slightly larger models. Can't blame Toyota for trimming the fat..

I was also excited when the Gen 2's first rolled out, but I'll gladly drive my 2003 for a long time to come. It serves my needs perfectly, it's long sense paid for, and it's proved itself essentially bullet proof! ..Won't say I'll never replace it, never is a long time! But if that day does come it'll have to be the sort of deal on the exact vehicle that I simply can't afford to say no to. I don't see that appearing on the horizon any time soon.

as much as i've bitched about my reg cab, knowing all these things now i'd thought that eventually i'd buy another one, 4-5 yrs down the road sorta thing if this one makes it that far. the loss of the reg cab only leaves me the fj cruiser but isn't that thing dying out too? sales are really low annually in canada on them anyway.. this sucks.

Unless they made a few 2012s early in the run still using the old stuff something isn't right in your statement. 2012 is when they started using the new dash lights. Mine looks like the one in the pictures.

I like regular cabs, but they have always been the lowest rung on the ladder. They don't cater to the majority, I don't think they would be massively cheaper to produce in comparison to other models, and the majority of them sold are fleet vehicles who tend to run the trucks for a long time and don't replace them as fast as the average, gotta have new car owner.

true, i can certainly see why they would cancel the production...makes sense to me, i wanna see the numbers sold yearly though, that'd be interesting.

Interesting. The very reason I turned my nose up at the Frontier was because I could not get it in a regular cab. In fact, my local Toyota dealer told me that he can not hang on to base, 2wd, 5-speed regular cabs. They sell as soon as he gets them. Back in December I stopped in on a Thursday evening to look at a '13 "stripper base" that had just come in. Came back Friday morning to buy it...it was gone...sold that night. My regular cab base truck had to be located 80 miles away. While I was waiting to complete the paperwork on the purchase, a salesperson came into the showroom and asked if it would be ok to show another customer my truck because this guy was looking for a regular cab, base model and they had no regular cabs to show him.
