Twice in the past year my truck sat for about a month each time while I was away. Both time I returned the trucl started just fine but the shifter was difficult to get out of park and into gear. The second time was about two week ago and it was much more difficult than the first time. It was tight the second day but started to loosen up some with repeated cycling. I did have an issue on that day of the gear indicator on the dash not matching the shift position. It did smooth out over a few days and has now been operating properly. Today I was driving on normal road conditions and cel and traction light came on and I pulled P0705 out as the only code. Searching through posts it seems like the earlier year models had a wiring harness issue related. Seems like some have cleaned contacts on neutral safety switch while others have replaced it altogether. Also seeing ground behind taillights being a possible culprit on 2015s (are those easy to spot when taillights are removed and is it one side or both?) Am I overlooking anything or completely going in the wrong direction? Any help is appreciated, thank you!

If it's difficult to move the shifter then I'd bet the Transmission Range Switch is corroded and in pretty bad shape causing your issues.

Im new to the Tacoma platform and want to make sure I am understanding correctly, are the trans range switch and neutral safety switch (which the dealership called neutral start switch) the same component? I appreciate you, thank you!

Also called the Park/Neutral Position Switch, it's on the passenger side of the transmission.

Thank you for sharing that procedure im gonna go back tomorrow and ensure torque specs I had to give her the ol German torque in a pinch. The old one was a beast to get off but with some convincing with the torch I managed to make it happen. Again I really appreciate you, thank you!
