thats like saying cancer is only a problem if you smoke cigarettes.

There are plenty of rust issues in non primary rust belt states. Fog, dew, driving conditions, temperature changes, and generally fault frame protection procedures from the factory play a factor in potential rusting tacoma frames.

Yes salted roads and colder climates tend to be more provocative of rust, but states like arizona and socal still get rust problems. Beach goers, those who drive down gravel roads chipping the frame paint and then dont wash will get rust from simple moisture overnight, all sorts of potential factors. Youre not exempt because of geographical location. I have seen a 600k mile tacoma from my hometown in upstate NY, with not a speck of rust on the frame or chassis - proper maintenance and awareness of preventative procedures is what keeps a vehicle in pristine condition no matter where it is from or resides.

Sure any frame can develop rust but location does play a big role. States where it snows and the roads are treated with salt and chemical will have more issues than states that don’t. I’ve never treated a single frame on any of my 4 Toyota’s, which go off-road, the beach, rain etc. Current frame treated the same no issues. Here is a pic, tell me it being in Texas doesn’t help. This frame gets washed when it rains.F0C51F13-09DD-42DD-81A9-CB01E9865CF5.jpg

My 2012 looks just as clean and we get snow and they treat the roads here.

I'd say a rusted frame outside of the salt belt is the exception.

All you have to do is test drive it,and check the frame for rust, done.

I bought it :) thank you all very much. This is a great forum.
It drives great. I need time to get used to how big it is, the heavy power steering and large steering wheel.
Taking it next week to dealer to check it out and replace fluids.
    Will post pictures soon.

14-15 were some of the least issue tacomas there has been. Just look at the recall records, they had 8 years previous to fix stuff.

Congrats... hope it works well. I have a DCLB, and yes, had to get used to the length. The steering , heavy feeling, means your good!
    Big steering wheel??....obviously you've never seen a '60's vehicle. :p
Enjoy! Will be a great truck for you!

I have both a 2005 DCLB with 250k miles, and my new truck is a 2015 with 38k miles. I chose the 2015 rather than the 3rd gen for that reason. I prefer the 4L 5 speed trans too

neither truck has rust on frame, and I'm in FL , beach, saltwater ramps all that

    anyway Congrats to MrSocal pics?

Thanks. Will post pictures this week after I take it to the dealer and pictures of the underside.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that my Tacoma has only 45K miles. I thought it was 55K.
Are you using synthetic oil and at what mileage did you switch? Thanks.

I started synthetic castrol gtx when I i bought it, so about @ 40k. Works out same cost as regular oil as well, over time.
$83 out the door, or diy

Congrats! I won't start a war on when to change your oil but I change mine every 5-7.500 miles with good synthetic oil. Got my 2013 with 45k on it two years ago and started running synthetic with no issues. 70k on it now. 4.0 Tacoma's on TW with over 400,000 miles going strong. I know you'll love your truck. Only concern I have for you is the fact you have a Prius, prepare for a sharp increase in your fuel usage with the Tacoma. Great trucks that seem to run forever but like gasoline. :spending::cheers:Cheers
