Is the sd card slot for backing up and updating your GPS or is it free for use?

From my understanding, Once I install the unit, I go to a web site and register and download to my chip which has a serial number.
I think its a one time upgrade to the latest map, etc... in effect at that time.
I have not went to the site yet so do not know what the price will be at a later date

I can't agree more, The Toyota entune GPS Sucks!! 1. it won't stay on full screen more than a few seconds. It reverts back to a split screen no matter what.
    2. It will not understand anything you say no matter how much you "train" it.
    3. it won't let you do much of anything if you are not in park. If you are driving don't waste your time trying to gps anything.
I use my phone and google maps instead. WAYYYYYY better!

    1. Read your manual and find the settings and uncheck the return to home screen option.
    3. Don't have to be in Park just below a certain speed or stopped. Toyota is afraid of lawsuits again. There is a bypass for this posted somewhere here. Search?
