2015 TRD OR? or Wait for 2016?

Soooo I know there has been much discussion on this topic and I'm sure everyone has different opinions. I want to buy a Tacoma now, but what are the pros and cons for waiting. Here's my thinking:

    1. 2016 has been confirmed to be a complete redesign (please let me know if this is not the case). The most important thing in a redesign I would hold out for is better engine performance and improved fuel economy. I could care less of a new look and bells and whistles.

    2. 2016 might be a complete overhaul and may incorporate great changes, but there's always those first few bugs that occur with a new model. Most likely, it will be the same case even for the reputable Tacoma.

What do you guys think? Get the 2015 (possibly last of the 2nd Gen) and ride it out and see what the 3rd gen develops into? Or wait it out and chance the new 2016?

When did 2016 get confirmed? I've just heard speculation.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
It is generally always better to wait. The 2015 will be cheaper in 2016 and always add new goodies for your money each year.

But with that logic you'd wait for thw 2017. Or wcen the 2018.... and so on.

I say wait until you need a new truck then buy one. I always wait for a new model and buy the older model. Always gwt a killer discount but have to take whatever may be left on a dealers lot. If you are flexible on features and color, etc.

Usually new Generation Models of anything usually has the new toys, but the second year of the new generation models have all of the kinks worked out

I'd place a fair amount of money on a wager that 2016 will be a redesign. They have held back for so long now and they know exactly what needs to be upgraded.

Exactly, I'd rather wait for the 2017 or 2018.

2016 is still speculated by TWers and not by Toyota, correct? Toyota hasn't released anything, right? All I've seen (without looking) is a few people dropping "trust me," which happens every model year regardless of any factual basis.

You'd wager a fair amount of money, sure.. but would you wager the price of a new truck? That's what OP is asking about.

    1. Yes several members, with alleged connections, have hinted at a redesign coming in 2016 but no one can say without a shadow of doubt that one is coming for the 2016 model year or at all.

    2. See above comment.

If you like the current Tacoma and have the dough buy it. If you'd like a Tacoma with more modern features and you would like to put more down on one wait a while. Something you may not of considered is that a 2016 Tacoma could be very much like the new Colorado and ditch a lot of the Off Road features that you seem to want in a truck. What would you do then?

trust me it's gonna happen, it might not happen in 2016 but it will happen eventually. You have my word.

That's like saying, "trust me eventually the US will go bankrupt". We all know it should and will happen one day. When or if is anyone's guess. Some of us have access to better insights on when or if it's coming but no one can say for 100% sure.

You are correct to make the assumption that a new model will have bugs to work out, sometimes to be reengineered for release in the second year of a model year. If you wait for 2016, then wait to see what bugs there are, and wait for those bugs to be reengineered, you may find that you've wasted well over a year to get a truck you want to enjoy now.

We've seen that new items coming out for the 2nd Gen have been retrofitted to the 1st, so the same is to be expected of new improvements on the 3rd gen becoming available for the 2nd. Another reaon to buy now.

If you wait till next year, you'll be another year older and wiser, and may be (ugh) more responsible in your spending habits, and (perish the thought) settle for a mini van for family needs.

Get what you want while you have the chance!

I'm sure it'll happen and for all I know it'll happen in 2016, but it'd just sucks to be in the group waiting to buy a new rig for the new model year and then having 2016 come and go.

So basically, I'd say OP if you want to hold off until the redesign to buy, then you might not be sitting another year or 2 (maybe more?). You'll have to wait for Toyota to make a release and commit to model changes.

    Otherwise, buy whatever you want.

Either way I would stick with the 15. If the 16 is anything like the iPhone 6, it will bend and break easily, and take 3 updates to make it work properly anyway.

An iPhone reference? Now all we need is someone to say "turn up the radio if it bothers you," "GM sucks," and "WOULD" and then we have ourselves a REAL TW thread!
